Ondrej Pavelec was fantastic Saturday leading the Czech Republic to a 2-1 victory over the Russians to take the Gold Medal at the Karjala Cup.
The Karjala Cup is a European tournament played annually in Finland with the host country, the Czech Republic, Russia and Sweden participating. Pavelec stopped 37 of 38 shots to stymie the Russians at every turn. Many of the participating countries biggest stars do not take part. Jakub Kindl scored a goal for the Czechs in the win. Other familiar names on the gold medal squad are Juri Tlutsy, Peter Nedved and Ladislav Smid.
