O'Brien was placed on waivers Sunday, the Los Angeles Times reports.

As long as he clears waivers, O'Brien will head to AHL San Diego for the start of the 2015-16 season. He played in nine regular season games with the Panthers last year, but spent the majority of his time in AHL San Antonio. During his time with San Antonio, he notched 11 goals and 19 assists over 51 games. Whether or not another team claims him off waivers, expect him to spend a lot of time in the AHL moving forward.
