Nicklas Backstrom will visit a specialist in Michigan to examine his neck injury.
"Nick and his agent informed us that they are being proactive with his injury and decided to visit a specialist prior to training camp," said Capitals spokesman Sergey Kocharov. "Obviously, as you know until camp officially starts teams cannot perform physicals on any player." Backstrom suffered what was deemed as a bruised neck while playing in the KHL during the lockout. The Capitals should get a better idea of Backstrom's availability for training camp and for the start of the season once the team reports in physicals.
