Coach Michel Therrien said Pacioretty (upper body) has been ruled out for Wednesday's postseason opener against the Senators, John Lu of TSN Montreal reports. Pacioretty was forced out of the Canadiens' final two regular-season matches due to the injury, but there was some hope he might be able to play in Game 1 after he was cleared for contact earlier this week. However, he wasn't a participant in line rushes during Wednesday's morning skate, and will now receive some extra time off to heal up. Therrien wouldn't rule Pacioretty out for Friday's Game 2, but the winger will probably need to demonstrate to the coaching staff that he's healthy the morning of the game before slotting back into the lineup. With Pacioretty unavailable Wednesday, Devante Smith-Pelly is slated to occupy a top-six role.
