Beauchemin signed a three-year, $13.5 million contract with the Avalanche on Wednesday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Beauchemin will give the Avs an experienced, left-handed defender to pair up with the team's most dynamic offensive talent on the blue line, Tyson Barrie. Coach Patrick Roy will largely task Beauchemin will providing sound play in front of netminder Semyon Varlamov, who was routinely barraged by shot attempts last season. At 35 years old, Beauchemin is probably on the downside of his career, but still possesses enough skill as a hitter and shot blocker to help upgrade the Avs' overall defense.
