Staal provided a goal and assist in Monday's 4-3 loss to the Sabres.

Staal nearly willed the 'Canes to a comeback from a four-goal deficit, as he had a hand in two of the team's third-period scores to cut the Sabres' lead to one. While the rally ultimately fell short, Staal can still take solace in the fact that he's been scorching of late, producing four goals and six assists over his last eight contests. He's an easy activation right now.

Staal scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in Saturday's 3-1 victory over New Jersey. His current point streak now stands at three games and six points, including two goals.

This little streak is saving his season -- his 49 points are his lowest point total since his rookie year (yes, he still hasn't matched his lockout total of 53 points). Take advantage of this run. And remember his name next fall -- he'll be just 31 in October and he still has at least a couple more solid seasons in him. He'll be better than this.

Staal scored his 20th goal and assisted on two more in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Penguins.

This hasn't been a good year for Staal -- in fact, it's inarguably the worst season he's posted since his rookie campaign -- but with four points in the last two, maybe he's set for a strong finish that'll make the fantasy community feel better about his prospects for next year.

Staal registered an assist in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Blackhawks, his first point in seven games.

With just 43 points to his credit and a mere 10 games left on the season, Staal is on track for his worst season since his rookie campaign back in 2003-04. Needless to say, he does not make for a good fantasy play right now, but to be fair, not many of his teammates do, either.

Staal tallied four assists and a plus-3 rating in Sunday's 7-4 win over the Oilers.

Staal benefitted from a hot shooting night from the rest of his mates, recording a season-high four points. It's been somewhat of a down year for the 30-year-old, but with 42 points in 59 contests, Staal could crack the 50-point mark for the 10th consecutive season.

Staal (illness) is on the ice for pregame warmups and looks like he'll play Friday against the Capitals, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.

As expected, Staal's minor bout with an illness won't prevent him from missing any game action, despite his absence from the Canes' morning skate. Look for him to slot in at his usual spot on the top line and receive his usual 20 minutes of action.

Staal is dealing with a minor illness, but he should still be able to play in Friday's game against the Capitals.

Staal and defenseman Brett Bellemore (illness) missed morning skate, but Hurricanes coach Bill Peters said he expects both players to be fine for Friday's game.

Stall netted a power-play goal and added an assist in Friday's win over Toronto. It was the sixth power-play tally of the season for Staal, who now has 18 goals and 35 points in 52 games. The 30-year-old should hit the 20-goal mark for the ninth time in 10 years, but it might be hard for him to crack 50 points. The top-line center is a strong fantasy option, but his inconsistency this season has frustrated fantasy owners. Hopefully he can build off this two-point outing, as he's had just six multi-point outings this season after recording 11 multi-point games last season.

Staal recorded an assist in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Islanders, his first point in four games. He also had four shots on goal in 18:17 of ice time. After a red-hot four-week period (Dec. 27 to Jan. 27)that saw him record 12 points in 13 games, Staal has cooled off somewhat, with just three points in seven games so far in the month of February. In most cases, fantasy owners will have little choice but to keep him rolling in the hopes that he can somehow get on another roll. For the time being, he continues to skate on the Canes' top line with Jiri Tlusty and brother Jordan.

Staal opened the scoring with a first-period goal Saturday against the Sharks, helping the Hurricanes to an eventual 5-4 win.

With 32 points in 47 games, Staal has been one of the brighter lights on an otherwise dismal Hurricanes squad this season. He's currently leading the team in goals (17), and is tied with Justin Faulk for the lead in points (32). At 30 years old, Staal's 100-point days are well behind him now, but he's still a useful mid-tier fantasy commodity in most formats.
