As mentioned above, the Florida Panthers defeated the Ottawa Senators by a score of 4-2 making things quite interesting in the Eastern Conference wild card race.  Obtaining Jaromir Jagr at the trade deadline has done wonders for the Cats offense, especially the young talent, as he scored twice with Jonathan Huberdeau contributing on both goals.  If Jagr re-signs with Florida next season, it could mean better stats out of the young talent like Huberdeau and Aleksander Barkov and company… What a wild game on the Island yesterday as the New York Islanders exchanged blows with the Detroit Red Wings and finally prevailing 5-4.  For the Wings it was important that Pavel Datysuk returned to the lineup and he showed why with a goal and an assist, showing that he is still a major component of this Detroit team.  What was more important for the Islanders was that they had 5 different goal scorers with John Tavares picking up 3 assists, but the Isles need to tighten up their defense if they want to make a run in the playoffs…. The Calgary Flames aren’t going away as they handily defeated the Nashville Predators 5-2 with Lance Bouma scoring twice and Jiri Hudler picking up a goal and two assists.  Defenseman Deryk Engelland continues to get his name on the score sheet picking up 2 assists after having a 2-goal game against Dallas on Wednesday night.  ...

Flames still burn bright, Young Oilers getting more comfortable In the only game with any real significance last night saw the Dallas Stars head to Calgary to take in the Flames. The Flames managed to eke out a point with defenseman Deryk Engelland the hero with 2 goals, his first goals on the season, that keeps the Flames 1-point ahead of the Los Angeles Kings who have a game in hand. This will be one hell of a race for that third slot in the Pacific Division…. The young Edmonton Oilers attacked early and held on to a 4-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche.  The Oil have found their offensive groove of late and should be able to help those still competing this late in their fantasy pools.  Jordan Eberle (21st) and Taylor Hall (12th) sparked a three-goal first period and show signs that the young nucleus is starting to mature in the NHL.

Engelland missed the last three games with a lower-body injury he suffered last week. He will replace Raphael Diaz in the lineup and skate on the third pairing with Ladislav Smid. He has averaged 17:58 TOI in his first four games in Calgary.

Engelland can play defence or forward, but brings more grit than skill. He had six goals and six assists in 56 games with the Penguins last season.
