In the postseason, he saw playing time come at a real premium, playing in only five games and averaging 7:29 of ice time in those games. Rundblad was named as the defenseman that will replace Marc Rozsival, who fractured his left ankle on Thursday night against the Wild, when the Blackhawks start the Stanley Cup Western Conference Finals, CSN Chicago reports.

Hawks' Joel Quenneville is going with the more offensive defenseman as Rundlbad had three goals and 11 assists in 49 games in the regular season. He will definitely be rusty as he has not skated since April 11. Rundblad could log the same amount of minutes as Rozsival, 15 to 18 minutes, in the opening game as Quenneville gives the bulk of the time on the ice to the team's top four defensemen.

It's his best season by far for the 24-year-old defenseman in his sixth NHL season. Rundblad only had a goal and eight assists in five previous seasons with two other clubs where he was shuttled between the NHL team and the minor leagues. After being a healthy scratch on Feb. 20, Rundblad has collected a pair of assists in his last four games.

Rundblad has been showing some good stuff in the first half as one of the last pair of defensemen on the Blackhawks, Hawks' general manager Stan Bowman told ESPN Chicago.

Rundblad scored goals in back-to-back games earlier this week and has collected three goals and six assists in 27 games this season. The games skated is the most in his six seasons in the NHL including stints with Ottawa and Arizona. Bowman gave Rundblad raves so far this season, but it will be interesting once rookie defenseman Trevor Van Riemsdyk returns from a leg injury which could be as early as mid-February. "I think David has probably grabbed the reins the most of all those guys," Bowman said. "He's (Rundblad) really shown he's kind of emerged as a guy that's getting more comfortable. He's always had the talent. I think as a young defenseman it's trying to gain the game-to-game confidence. He's moved from the left side to the right side. Having not only not played the left side much, that was an adjustment for him, but I thought he got pretty good at it."
