The Nashville Predators signed right wing Craig Smith to a five-year, $21.25 million contract extension Monday, according to the team's official website. It was reported Saturday that Smith and the team were far apart on the terms of an extension, but the two sides were able to close the gap following an arbitration hearing. “As evidenced by his back-to-back 20-goal seasons and performance in the 2015 Stanley Cup playoffs, Craig Smith is an integral part of our team’s young core and we are pleased to have agreed on a long-term contract that both parties are comfortable with,” president of hockey operations and general manager David Poile said. “With Craig’s durability, work ethic and intensity, we see him continuing the build on his recent production and be a valuable contributor to our offensive attack for the next five seasons.” Smith is expected to reprise his top-six role next season.

Smith provided an assist on both of the club's goals in Sunday's Game 3 loss to the Blackhawks.

Although the Predators find themselves down in the series, Smith has been fantastic thus far as he's picked up five points -- all of which have come in the last two games. The 25-year-old racked up another six shots Sunday to bring his playoff total to 16 in just three games as he figures to be one of the top point-producing options for Nashville going forward.

Smith scored a pair of goals, dished out an assist and fired four shots on goal in Friday's Game 2 victory over the Blackhawks.

A monsterous performance from Smith, who was credited with the game-winning goal Friday. The 25-year-old is off to a hot start in the playoffs, firing 10 shots on goal in his first two games. While he lacks playoff experience, Smith scored 23 goals in the regular season and plays a key role for the Predators on their first line and top power-play unit.

Smith registered a power-play assist during Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Colorado. He also fired four shots on goal in 16:44 of ice time.

With 43 points in 80 games this season, Smith has taken a step back offensively from last year's 52-point effort. However, with the addition of guys like Mike Ribeiro and James Neal this season, he's no longer one of the Preds' big guns, as evidenced by the dip in his ice time from 16:24 last year to 15:47 currently. Overall, he's still a solid top-six forward and has plenty of value in most fantasy formats - just don't overpay to get him next year.

Smith potted his sixth power-play goal of the season in Saturday's win over the Kings.

That's 22 goals and 40 points in 70 games for Smith, who is also sporting a plus-11 rating. The second-liner has been held off the scoresheet just three times in his last 10 games, making him a safe and reliable fantasy option. Sitting among the top-40 NHL goal-scorers, Smith is a solid sniper who can be depended on in most fantasy formats.

Smith failed to crack the scoresheet in Monday's 2-1 OT win over the Coyotes; however, he did register five hits and four shots on goal.

Smith still has 12 points in his past 13 games, so don't be too discouraged by this one-game blip. He is once again thriving on the Preds' top line alongside Mike Ribeiro and Filip Forsberg, so keep him rolling.

Smith netted his 20th goal of the season in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Wild.

Smith is on track to fall short of last year's career-high total of 52 points, but he's at least in the midst of his hottest run of production of the season. He's accumulated six goals and two assists in his last seven games, making him a trendy waiver wire addition in recent days.

Smith captured an assist and attempted a season-high nine shots in Thursday's loss to the Islanders.Smith didn't find twine in this one, but his high shot total offers further encouragement that his production is trending upward. In his previous two games, Smith compiled three goals and an assist while putting seven shots on net.

Smith scored a pair of goals -- one on the power play -- Tuesday in a 5-1 victory over the Sharks. That's his second straight two-point effort following an eight-game scoring drought, though Smith's season numbers are still lingering below last year's level. He'd need 21 points in the 25 games the Preds have left to match last season's 52-point output.

Smith snapped his eight-game scoring slump with a goal and an assist on Saturday night. He now has 15 goals and 14 assists in 56 games this season. The Preds bolstered its offence last offseason and Smith hasn't had to be the go-to guy this season. And he hasn't. He's well off his 52-point pace from last year. This is just his fourth season and it remains to be seen if he's actually falling into a high-low, high-low annual production cycle. Keeper leaguers will keep watch on that; single year owners may find other options.
