Salvador (back) announced his retirement Wednesday in an article on The Players' Tribune.
EDGE Analysis
Salvador skated 14 seasons in the NHL, recording 24 goals and 86 assists over 786 games. The 39-year-old spent his final eight years in the league with New Jersey, captaining the team for the last three seasons. Injuries dogged him later in his career, but his leadership and sound positional play from the blue line were attributes that outweighed his lack of offensive contributions. He'll remain in the New Jersey organization as an ambassador for the sport.

Though the Devils haven't made it official yet, it appears unlikely that Salvador (back) will play again this season, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports. "[Salvador's] in rehab right now. He hasn't started skating, so I can't answer how long it will be for him to come back once he starts skating," general manager Lou Lamoriello said Thursday. The 39-year-old is in the final season of his three-year contract with the Devils. Given his age and impending free agency, it's quite possible that unless Salvador begins making some notable progress in his recovery over the next month, he may have skated in his last NHL game.

Devils GM Lou Lamorioello said Thursday that Salvador's lower-body injury, which has kept him out since Nov. 10, is related to his back, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports. Progress has been slow thus far for the Devils captain, but he still fully expects to play at some point this season, which could be his final stanza in the NHL. The 37-year-old remains under doctor's care and could be cleared to resume skating once he regains some strength with his back. With two points and a minus-5 rating over 15 games before succumbing to the injury, Salvador isn't somebody that fantasy owners are anxiously waiting for to come back.

Salvador (lower body) has yet to resume skating since landing on injured reserve Nov. 17, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports. Salvador suggested that he's making progress, but he has yet to show anything tangible that would indicate as much. The 38-year-old is in the final year of his contract with the Devils and could be headed for retirement once the season concludes.

The Devils placed Salvador (lower body) on IR on Monday, Tom Gulitti of the Record reports. The veteran blueliner will head to IR to open up a roster spot for Peter Harrold to be called up. The Devils will head out of town for a four game road trip over the next couple weeks, and Salvador won't come along for the trip.

Salvador (lower body) will not play in Friday's game against the Capitals, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports. Salvador did not make the trip to Washington with his teammates, so he will miss his second straight game Friday. The Devils play again Saturday, and it remains to be seen if Salvador will be available for that game.

Salvador will miss Tuesday's game against the Wild with a lower-body injury, NHL.com's Mike Morreale reports. The 38-year-old most likely acquired the injury during Monday's 4-2 loss to the Bruins. Seth Helgeson was recalled from AHL Albany to take Salvador's spot in the lineup Tuesday.

Salvador added five blocks, and one hit, along with two shots in Saturday's victory over the Senators. Even though his offensive stats are non-existent, he is worth a look for fantasy owners in need of a defensive boost.

Bryce Salvador is no longer dealing with a hip problem. Salvador was limited to just 40 contests in 2013-14, but he should be fine for the start of training camp. The bigger question is if the Devils will decide to buy out the final season of his contract.

There's a chance that Bryce Salvador's tenure with the New Jersey Devils will end with a compliance buyout. Salvador's cap hit for the 2014-15 campaign will be $3,166,667 and his contract will expire after that. He was limited to just 40 games last season, but he did log an average of 20:17 minutes per game when he was healthy.
