Sharks head coach Pete DeBoer said Burns is a defenseman, Sportsnet.ca reports. "He's a defenceman," DeBoer said of Burns. "You can't play that position part-time. He was a little bit uncomfortable. We have to commit to him playing there, so he can really become comfortable with it."

Not that there was much question, but this should put an early end to any potential rumors regarding another position switch for Burns. Named the best defenseman at the 2015 World Championships, the 30-year-old will enter 2015-16 as one of the NHL's preeminent puck-moving blueliners.

Burns recorded an assist but finished with a minus-1 rating in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Jets.

Burns is now minus-5 on the season, which must be a minor concern for those that drafted him hoping he would come anywhere close to the plus-26 mark he set just last year. But on a grander scale, Burns has 51 points, which is a new career high with 12 games remaining on the regular-season schedule. This high rate of offensive production is a nice counter against the higher rate of goals being scored while Burns is on the ice.

That's the first time Burns has fallen below the 20-minute mark since the 12th game of the season and it's the second lowest amount of ice time he's had this year. It's notable, but nothing to be concerned about. He'll continue to be one of the best defenseman in fantasy, as he has been all season.

Burns found twice twice Wednesday on five shots on goal in a 5-4 OT to the Capitals. That's 42 points on the year and five in the last four games for the former forward, who has surpassed expectations this season after many predicted his move back to defense would equate to a drastic drop in offensive production from last year (48 points in 69 games). The 29-year-old is a seasoned NHL veteran as he's now in his 11th season in the league and is a key cog in the Sharks' machine, so Burns should continue to be a reliable fantasy contributor in the final two months of the season.
