MacDonald will require six weeks of rehab for the broken hand he suffered in Wednesday's win over the Blackhawks, Frank Seravalli of the Philadelphia Daily News reports.

The injury ends a miserable campaign for MacDonald, who supplied only 12 points and a minus-5 rating over 58 games while noticing a steep drop in ice time from a season earlier. With five years and $25 million still remaining on the massive extension MacDonald inked last April, the Flyers are undoubtedly expressing some buyer's remorse. MacDonald should enter the 2015-16 season at full health and with much to prove.

MacDonald chipped in an assist in Saturday's 7-2 win over the Red Wings.

Signed to a large extension by the Flyers last April, MacDonald is already giving the team a case of buyer's remorse. MacDonald is on track to finish with a point total less than half of his mark from a year ago, and has already served as a healthy scratch for multiple games this season. He's been more of a lineup regular of late, but with only two points in his last 16 games, it might not be long before he's banished to the press box again. That $5 million cap hit may be even look worse in the years to come.

He'll find himself a healthy scratch for the second straight game, however, as the return of Braydon Coburn appears to have made him the team's seventh defenseman. MacDonald will have an even tougher time clawing his way back into the lineup when Kimmo Timonen (blood clots) returns to action, perhaps as soon as next week.

MacDonald scored a goal and added a power-play assist in Philadelphia's loss to New Jersey on Saturday night.

It was his first two-point game since Jan. 6, 2014. His fantasy value is seriously limited right now -- he has just nine points in 28 games. Don't invest.

MacDonald collected an assist and finished plus-3 in Tuesday's 5-2 win over Minnesota.

After going pointless in seven straight games, the previous update must have made him hungry. Still, it's been a frustrating season for MacDonald, whom the Flyers extended over the summer. He'll need to show more consistency before he becomes a regular fixture in most fantasy lineups.
