Benoit signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Blues on Monday.

Benoit experienced a large dip in offensive production in 2014-15, tallying a mere nine points after registering 28 points in 2013-14. This dip in production can largely be attributed to the fact that the 31-year-old defender played 20 fewer games in 2014-15, and was a member of the league's worst team in the Sabres. A fresh start with a new team may be just what the doctor ordered for Benoit, but don't expect him to surpass the numbers he posted in the 2013-14 campaign.

Benoit (upper body) did not practice Thursday and will likely sit out the final two games of the season, reports The Buffalo News.

Chad Ruhwedel was called from AHL Rochester on Friday morning, which means Benoit will likely sit out Friday's game. If his condition doesn't improve, he won't play Saturday either, bringing his season to a close. He has one goal and nine points in 59 games this season with a minus-19 rating.

Benoit, who left Monday's game with a lower-body injury, did not skate at practice Thursday.

The Sabres don't play until Friday, which gives Benoit a little more time, but his status is questionable until further notice. The veteran defenseman could sit out the Sabres' two remaining games, though there has been no news of a call-up from AHL Rochester yet. Benoit has one goal and nine points in 59 games this season with 98 blocked shots.

Benoit left Monday's win over the Hurricanes in the second period with a lower-body injury, the Buffalo News reports.

Benoit finished the game with 8:36 of ice time, forcing the Sabres to run five defensemen for about half the contest. He'll be listed as day-to-day for the time being, but he fails to show dramatic progress in the next day or two, the blueliner could be ruled out for the Sabres' remaining two games.

Benoit recorded an assist and two shot attempts in Friday's loss to the Senators.

With Josh Gorges (lower body) out for the season, Benoit has assumed a spot next to Zach Bogosian on the Sabres' top pairing over the last several contests. The arrangement has yet to bear much fruit for the 31-year-old, who hasn't historically provided much in the way of offense in any role he's settled into over his career. The assist was his first point since Jan. 18.

Benoit will be a healthy scratch Thursday against the Oilers, reports Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News.

Despite the team's struggles, the Sabres will keep the same lineup they had against Calgary. Benoit, who has six points in 33 games, will be a healthy scratch alongside Nikita Zadorov. The 31-year-old has served as a depth defenseman for much of the season. He provides some offensive value when he plays, but the team's forwards are struggling, so chances are few and far between. Zadorov will likely dress Friday against Vancouver while Benoit's status is TBD.

Benoit scored a shorthanded goal -- his first tally of the season -- and went plus-3 despite the Sabres giving up six goals in Tuesday's loss to the Wings.

Quite the impressive outing for Benoit, who now has four points in his last six games, but with just five shots on goal over that span, it doesn't seem terribly likely that he'll be able to keep it up.

Benoit registered an assist in Saturday's loss to the Avalanche.

Benoit now has tallied assists in three of his last four games, but the larger body of work over his career suggests that the uptick in scoring is probably coincidental. He still remains relegated to third-pairing duties for the Sabres, and had gone without a point in his first 19 games. Don't read too much into his relative outburst recently.

Benoit will return to the Sabres lineup Friday against Edmonton, reports WGR 550 SportsRadio.

Benoit has gone pointless in 12 games this year and posted an ugly minus-9 rating, but brings some offense to the table. He'll replace Tyson Strachan as the Sabres try to take advantage of a relatively weak defensive team in Edmonton. Benoit is averaging 21:33 and is averaging almost two blocked shots per game. On a night without many games, Benoit could be an intriguing option for a plug-and-play defenseman for tonight only.

Benoit will be scratched for the second straight game Wednesday when the Sabres take on the Canadiens, The Buffalo News reports.

Assuming the Sabres keep Nikita Zadorov around, they have eight healthy defensemen right now and anyone but Tyler Myers and Josh Gorges seems to be a candidate for press box any given night. With zero points in 12 games and a minus-9 rating, Benoit should be nowhere near anyone's lineup in his first season as a Sabre.
