Roberto Luongo G FLA Feb 02 '13
He was supposed to be the Vancouver Canucks' backup goaltender to Cory Schneider this season -- that is, if he didn't get his wish to be traded -- but there's little doubt now that Roberto Luongo has resurfaced as the team's Numero Uno in net.
Luongo turned aside 27 of 28 shots in regulation and then all four Blackhawks he faced in the shootout en route to the Canucks' 2-1 victory over Chicago in Vancouver Friday night. He is undefeated in regulation with a 2-0-2 record and has a .944 save percentage as well as a 1.46 goals-against average. "He had a tough summer and a tough lockout with a lot of uncertainty," Canucks defenseman Kevin Bieksa said of Luongo. "But he's handled it the right way and it doesn't seem to be affecting his game too much. He's been playing some of his best hockey. We're a better team when he's playing like that."
