IN STEVE'S DEFENSE: NICKLAS LIDSTROM RETIRES primepucks.com Mar 12 '78

In a very emotional press conference in Detroit today, the great Nicklas Lidstrom announced that he was finally hanging up his skates for good after a 20-year illustrious career. We love our fantasy hockey here at PrimePucks, but we must first pay homage to Lidstrom as arguably the best elite two-way defenseman of our time. Before I give you my normal fantasy fix, there are plenty of accolades and accomplishments we need to celebrate...

Well, here is a list of my top-five Nicklas Lidstrom "amazing facts". Let's start from the bottom and work our way up:

5. He was a 12-time All-Star and was on the first team 10 times. Wow, well over half of his career. Now, that constitutes the definition of "elite" in an all-time sense.

4. He won 7 Norris Trophies, ranking second all-time to Bobby Orr's eight and tied with Doug Harvey. Great company to say the least!
