Mike Glennon QB TB 6 Hrs

With Josh McCown (thumb) expected to be unavailable this week against the Saints, Glennon is expected to earn his second straight starting nod, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

McCown remains in a holding pattern with his thumb injury, with the team believing he'll be able to avoid surgery after he reported improvement while throwing Monday. Even so, McCown still needs further recovery time, and it seems rather unlikely that he earns back the starting role once he's healthy. Glennon wasn't spectacular in Sunday's victory over the Steelers, but he did limit his turnovers and showed excellent poise while driving the Bucs down the field for the game-clinching touchdown. So long as he doesn't completely flop against the Saints, Glennon will have a good chance at hanging on to the gig, especially after McCown was horrendous (43-for-68, 420 yards, two touchdowns, four interceptions) in his three starts before falling victim to injury.

Glennon, starting in place of the injured Josh McCown (thumb), completed 21-of-42 passes for 302 yards with two touchdowns and one interception during Sunday's 27-24 win over the Steelers.

While he wasn't terribly accurate, Glennon was best when it mattered most, leading the Bucs on a game-winning drive that ended in a five-yard touchdown pass to Vincent Jackson with five seconds left. He connected with seven different receivers, though he lost rookie wideout Mike Evans to a groin injury in the third quarter. McCown will try to throw Monday, but if he is unable to, he could have surgery that would sideline him for up to six weeks, leaving Glennon as the starter, a job he could keep for the rest of the season if he continues to play well. Up next is a road game at New Orleans that will likely require plenty of offense.

Glennon is slated to start Sunday's game in Pittsburgh for Josh McCown (thumb), Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Lingering pain and reduced strength are the two hindrances to McCown suiting up, but his sprained thumb will ultimately force coach Lovie Smith to explore other options. After McCown suffered the injury in Week 3 against the Falcons, Glennon dinked and dunked his way to 17-of-24 passing, 121 yards, and one touchdown. Nevertheless, he could fare better against a Steelers defense that has allowed a modest 7.2 YPA this season.

Coach Lovie Smith said that there's a decent chance Mike Glennon gets the nod at quarterback Sunday in Pittsburgh, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

After typical starter Josh McCown suffered a sprain thumb in Week 3, Glennon entered and performed modestly, completing 17-of-24 passes for 121 yards and one touchdown. McCown was unable to practice Wednesday, further strengthening Glennon's chances of directing the offense Sunday. Expect the situation to be cleared up by the weekend.

Glennon appears on track to start Week 4's game at Pittsburgh, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The report notes that fellow QB Josh McCown, who is dealing with a significantly sprained right thumb, is slated to see a hand specialist Monday. At this stage, it seems unlikely that McCown will suit up next weekend. Given that, it looks as though we'll see Glennon draw the start at QB for the Bucs in Week 4 thus making him an option in deeper formats, or for those looking for a potential bye week plug-in.

Filling in for an injured Josh McCown (thumb), Glennon completed 17-of-24 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's 56-14 loss to the Falcons.

Between McCown's injury and awful performance, Glennon may stand a chance to start in Week 4 against the Steelers. While the second-year signal-caller looked better than McCown, it doesn't take much to throw a bunch of dump-off passes in garbage time. Glennon was still immobile and shaky under pressure, so any decision to switch quarterbacks would be more about McCown's weaknesses than Glennon's strengths, even if the Bucs would never say so.

Glennon completed 6-of-12 passes for 77 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Dolphins.

Glennon followed up a strong first outing with a dud, and while he isn't a threat to unseat Josh McCown before the start of the season, Glennon could take over if McCown struggles once the games count. The better Glennon plays this preseason, the more likely it is that the Bucs will have a short leash with McCown.

Bucs GM Jason Licht said he had conversations with the Cardinals around the draft regarding QB Mike Glennon.

Ultimately, the Bucs decided to keep Glennon after putting him on the trade block. They claim that's because they had a change of heart, but it's also possible that they simply weren't satisfied with compensation. Regardless, it's further confirmation that there's no real quarterback "battle" in Tampa -- Josh McCown is their starter. Meanwhile, the Cardinals will continue their hunt for 34-year-old Carson Palmer's successor next offseason.

In a radio interview, Buccaneers GM Jason Licht said second-year QB Mike Glennon "scored very high" on the three traits he and coach Lovie Smith feel a quarterback needs to succeed.

The three traits are toughness, intelligence and accuracy. A cynic would view these comments as damage control after Tampa reportedly tried to move Glennon during the draft, but there is a chance the Bucs staff's opinion on Glennon changed once they actually met and saw the young quarterback play. With Josh McCown already 35, Glennon is an interesting stash in Dynasty formats.

Bucs GM Jason Licht said the new regime was sold on Mike Glennon after the first minicamp.

The Bucs have been doing damage control this week on the Glennon front. Despite immediately naming Josh McCown their starter upon signing him and reportedly trying to trade Glennon during the draft, they're now insisting he's their quarterback of the future. Given McCown's age (35) and the Bucs' improved weaponry, Glennon is worth stashing in Dynasty just in case Licht and Lovie Smith are telling the truth.
