Glennon completed 6-of-12 passes for 77 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Dolphins.

Glennon followed up a strong first outing with a dud, and while he isn't a threat to unseat Josh McCown before the start of the season, Glennon could take over if McCown struggles once the games count. The better Glennon plays this preseason, the more likely it is that the Bucs will have a short leash with McCown.

Bucs GM Jason Licht said he had conversations with the Cardinals around the draft regarding QB Mike Glennon.

Ultimately, the Bucs decided to keep Glennon after putting him on the trade block. They claim that's because they had a change of heart, but it's also possible that they simply weren't satisfied with compensation. Regardless, it's further confirmation that there's no real quarterback "battle" in Tampa -- Josh McCown is their starter. Meanwhile, the Cardinals will continue their hunt for 34-year-old Carson Palmer's successor next offseason.

In a radio interview, Buccaneers GM Jason Licht said second-year QB Mike Glennon "scored very high" on the three traits he and coach Lovie Smith feel a quarterback needs to succeed.

The three traits are toughness, intelligence and accuracy. A cynic would view these comments as damage control after Tampa reportedly tried to move Glennon during the draft, but there is a chance the Bucs staff's opinion on Glennon changed once they actually met and saw the young quarterback play. With Josh McCown already 35, Glennon is an interesting stash in Dynasty formats.

Bucs GM Jason Licht said the new regime was sold on Mike Glennon after the first minicamp.

The Bucs have been doing damage control this week on the Glennon front. Despite immediately naming Josh McCown their starter upon signing him and reportedly trying to trade Glennon during the draft, they're now insisting he's their quarterback of the future. Given McCown's age (35) and the Bucs' improved weaponry, Glennon is worth stashing in Dynasty just in case Licht and Lovie Smith are telling the truth.

ESPN's Adam Schefter stated on NFL Insiders that Mike Glennon will "certainly" compete with Josh McCown for the Buccaneers' starting quarterback job.

Per Schefter, Glennon has changed minds inside the organization since the new coaching staff and front office have gotten to meet him. He's "truly impressed" and "opened up some eyes," per Schefter. There were rumors on draft weekend the Bucs wanted to trade Glennon, specifically for a second-round pick. We're still not sold the Bucs are all in on the third-round pick they inherited from the Mark Dominik regime, but Glennon remains someone to monitor with Tampa Bay's improved weaponry. It's conceivable that both Glennon and 35-year-old journeyman McCown will make 2014 starts.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, the Bucs turned down Mike Glennon trade offers from "at least a half dozen teams" during the draft.

"There's a lot of interest and we want to keep Mike,'' Bucs GM Jason Licht said Saturday. "(They were) just feeling it out. I know that Mike has a very good reputation throughout the league as far as his developmental future." The Bucs appeared ready to kick Glennon to the curb earlier this offseason, but are now doubling down on him as their "quarterback of the future." Glennon is obviously solidified as Josh McCown's No. 2 after the Bucs passed on taking a quarterback this weekend, but his future is still hazy beyond 2014.

ESPN's Ed Werder reports the Bucs have "no plans" to trade QB Mike Glennon.

We could have guessed as much after coach Lovie Smith came out and said following the draft that he sees Glennon as the Bucs' "quarterback of the future." Josh McCown is going to get every opportunity to earn the starting job, but he's 35 years old. Glennon has three years left on his rookie deal.

Coach Lovie Smith called Mike Glennon the Bucs' "quarterback of the future" after they passed on a quarterback Thursday evening.

The Bucs were widely connected to Johnny Manziel, but ended up going with his college teammate, WR Mike Evans. "You know how much I like Josh McCown as our starter," Smith said of his quarterback situation. "But I love Mike Glennon." That's just coachspeak, of course, but Glennon's Tampa future is much clearer after the media packed his bags before the draft. He should remain in town for at least 2014.

Sources tell Profootballtalk.com a Mike Glennon-to-New England trade is "not in the works."

PFT's Michael David Smith calls the hypothetical deal "all talk and no action." Perhaps this will change if the Patriots seal a deal sending Ryan Mallett to Houston, but for now the wheels are not spinning on Glennon to Foxboro.

The Arizona Republic "guesses" the Cardinals would be interested in acquiring Bucs QB Mike Glennon if he were available for a fourth- or fifth-round pick.

"My guess is the Cardinals would seriously consider it," writes Kent Somers. "That's just a guess." Of course, this would all likely hinge on the Bucs selecting a quarterback in the first two or three rounds of this weekend's draft. Bucs GM Jason Licht worked for the Cardinals last season and remains close with Arizona GM Steve Keim. Glennon has a big arm, which is an attribute coach Bruce Arians likes in his quarterbacks. The Cardinals have just seven picks.
