Tashaun Gipson DB CLE 6 Days
Gipson tallied eight combined tackles (three solo) and returned an interception 62 yards for a touchdown in Sunday's victory over the Saints.
Gipson showed that he can be a valuable playmaker Sunday, providing the Browns with some separation in the second quarter by taking a Drew Brees pass back the other way. It was the second time of his career that Gipson has returned an interception for a touchdown, and after five picks in his 2013 season, Gipson is beginning to show a nose for the football on a consistent basis. If he can match or exceed last season's numbers (95 combined tackles), look for Gipson to be a serviceable IDP option for the rest of the year.

Gipson (knee) returned to practice on Tuesday, ESPN Cleveland reports.
Gipson missed action over the weekend due to a sprained knee, a minor ailment that simply needed a few days of rest to overcome. Now back on the field, Gipson should continue to see work with the Browns' starting defense at free safety. Entering his third season, Gipson could be a sleeper in IDP formats, as he posted 95 tackles (63 solo) and five interceptions last season.

Browns FS Tashaun Gipson missed 17 tackles in 2013.
Gipson managed an impressive 95 total tackles in his second season, but missing on over 15 percent of his tackle opportunities is a liability for the Browns secondary. Gipson is tentatively the starter at safety along with newly-signed Donte Whitner.

Tashaun Gipson has been named the Browns starting free safety.
Gipson beat out Johnson Bademosi and Jamoris Slaughter to win the right to line up next to hard-hitting strong safety T.J. Ward. Gipson appeared in 10 games last year, recording one interception and 23 tackles. He graded out as ProFootballFocus' No. 42 safety among 88 qualifiers.

The Browns listed Tashaun Gipson as the starting free safety on their first unofficial depth chart.
Gipson, a second-year UDFA, entered training camp as the favorite to start, and he's done nothing to lose it. The Browns have been impressed with fellow second-year safety Johnson Bademosi, and he's going to get a shot to overtake Gipson. We'll get a better feel once preseason games start.

Second-year UDFA Tashaun Gipson enters Browns camp as the favorite to start at free safety.
His only real competitors are converted CB Johnson Bademosi, another 2012 UDFA, and sixth-round rookie Jamoris Slaughter. Slaughter was a linebacker/safety hybrid at Notre Dame and is highly unlikely to suddenly become a centerfielder in the NFL. Gipson practiced as the starter throughout spring practices.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer confirms that Tashaun Gipson has the "early lead" for the Browns' free safety job.
Sixth-round pick Jamoris Slaughter (Achilles') will be "worked in" once he's healthy, but we don't expect him to have a legitimate shot at landing the starting job as a rookie. Johnson Bademosi and Buster Skrine have also seen time at the safety spot next to T.J. Ward. Gipson started three games last season.

Browns GM Mike Lombardi said Tashaun Gipson remains the starting free safety.
The Browns used a sixth-round pick on Jamoris Slaughter, but he's coming off a torn Achilles' tendon and isn't real competition. They have also passed on free agents such as Kerry Rhodes (so far), giving Gipson a vote of confidence. He graded out 42nd among 88 qualifying safeties in Pro Football Focus' rankings last season.

Tashaun Gipson ran as the starting free safety during Browns pre-draft minicamp practices.
This is a position to which Cleveland will almost certainly add competition in the draft, but it's worth noting. Pat Shurmur's old coaching staff was high on Gipson's talent, believing he could grow into an eventual starter. Free safety is currently one of the top question marks on an otherwise underrated roster.

Pat Shurmur's old Browns coaching staff believed second-year S Tashaun Gipson could develop into an NFL starter.
Regime change obviously leads to differing opinions, but Gipson showed promise in practice as a rookie. The UDFA from Wyoming measured 5-foot-11 3/8, 206 at his 2012 Pro Day and ran a 4.61 forty with a 10-foot-2 broad jump and 35 1/2-inch vertical. The Browns are currently searching for a starting free safety.
