Vikings CB Josh Robinson admitted he's not very comfortable playing in the slot.

Robinson has been tabbed as Antoine Winfield's replacement. The second-year man never played slot corner while at Central Florida and never profiled as a strong tackler. "This is all new to me," Robinson said. Opposing offensive coordinators are going to put him to the test early and often this season.

2012 third-round pick Josh Robinson is expected to be the Vikings' nickel back this season after the Xavier Rhodes first-round pick.

Rhodes and Chris Cook will start outside with Robinson in the slot corner role vacated by Antoine Winfield. A.J. Jefferson will get the first crack at dime back. Robinson showed flashes as a rookie, but was highly inconsistent. NFC North teams figure to try to pick on him with Randall Cobb, and with the Bears and Lions respectively moving Brandon Marshall and Calvin Johnson into the slot.

Vikings agreed to terms with third-round CB Josh Robinson on a four-year contract.

While it's a bit of a red flag in terms of college game tape that Robinson was still available after two rounds of the draft, he displayed blazing speed (4.33) and all-around athleticism in his Combine workout. A bit of a project, Robinson seems unlikely to threaten for significant playing time as a rookie.

GM Rick Spielman indicated that rookie CB Josh Robinson will compete with CB Marcus Sherels and WR Jarius Wright for punt-return duties.

The fastest of the three, Robinson averaged 13.1 yards on 27 returns at Central Florida the past two seasons. Wright averaged just 5.9 yards on eight returns over four seasons at Arkansas. Sherels is the incumbent, racking up 277 yards (8.4 yards per) on 33 returns last season.

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier wants third-round pick CB Josh Robinson to "compete for a starting job."

"Not just the nickel position," Frazier said. "We want him to compete for a starting job." Frazier has also been impressed with Robinson's return ability at the Vikings' rookie minicamp. "(Robinson) caught a punt and he just took off like a guy shot out of a rocket." Robinson clocked a Combine-best 4.33 in the 40. Although things remain unsettled in the Vikings secondary, Robinson should prove too raw to start as a rookie.
