Craig Robertson LB CLE 2 Months

Robertson is line to split first-team reps with rookie Chris Kirksey, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Robertson and Kirksey are viewed by coach Mike Pettine as "both starters," and as a result, the playing time will depend on the personnel grouping in the given situation. This doesn't bode well for either players' outlook as an IDP.

The Browns were "unsatisfied" with ILB Craig Robertson's play in 2013.

Robertson flashed every-down linebacker tools as an undrafted rookie in 2012, but was exposed badly in run defense as a sophomore and even struggled in coverage, which is supposed to be his strength. The Browns want to upgrade at inside linebacker. Look for Robertson to be a nickel 'backer at best in 2014.

Browns extended a tender to ILB Craig Robertson.

Robertson is an exclusive-rights free agent, so the tender is only worth $570k. Robertson made 57 tackles and an interception in 14 games with the Browns last season.

Browns defensive coordinator Ray Horton called ILB Craig Robertson the "pleasant surprise" of Cleveland's offseason program.

Projected to start adjacent to D'Qwell Jackson, Robertson has some Wesley Woodyard to his game. "A young, athletic backer, who is savvy," Horton described. "When I came here, I wasn't sure how he would be on picking things up, but he's been everything I wanted. That's my little ace in the hole I hope."

Browns LB Craig Robertson remains in the "driver's set" to start opposite D'Qwell Jackson.

Robertson was considered the favorite even before the Browns failed to address the position in the draft, so his position has only gotten stronger. Robertson ran with the first team throughout OTAs. A 2011 undrafted free agent, Robertson played 628 snaps last season, grading out negatively in Pro Football Focus' ratings. He'll be pushed by Tank Carder and L.J. Fort in camp.

Browns LB Craig Robertson is "getting the first crack" at the starting inside linebacker job next to D'Qwell Jackson.

Jackson is locked in, but second-year linebackers Robertson and James-Michael Johnson will compete for the other spot. Robertson appeared in all 16 games as a rookie, recording 93 tackles, one sack, and two interceptions. Johnson started eight games in 2012 before ending the season on injured reserve with a minor knee injury. Both players are best in coverage.
