The Patriots have signed Lewis to a reserve/future contract, ESPN's Adam Caplan reports.

The 5-8, 195-pounder should have a chance to compete for a roster spot with the Patriots next season. Lewis' last NFL regular season carry came in 2012, while he was with the Eagles.

Lewis was waived by the Colts on Tuesday, ESPN reports.

Lewis lasted only one week with the Colts and was previously cut by the Browns at the end of this year's preseason. Following a leg injury that forced him to miss all of last season, Lewis has struggled to find staying power in the league.

Lewis signed with the Colts on Tuesday, Rand Getlin of Yahoo! Sports reports.

Lewis was in camp with the Browns this preseason but failed to crack the final roster, as Cleveland instead opted to go with Ben Tate, Terrance West and Isaiah Crowell in the backfield. The Pittsburgh product has not appeared in an NFL game since 2012, when he rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown in nine games for the Eagles. Lewis will likely serve as the third or fourth back behind Trent Richardson and Ahmad Bradshaw.

Lewis has been cut by the Browns, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

With Lewis, who carried 12 times for 30 yards in the preseason, no longer in the mix, it appears as though Isaiah Crowell -- who looked sharp in the team's preseason finale -- is now a candidate to claim a reserve slot in the Browns' backfield behind Ben Tate and Terrance West.

Lewis has separated himself in the battle for the Browns' No. 3 running back job, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.

Lewis received just three carries in the Browns' third preseason contest, but his eight yards on the ground were actually good enough for second on the team. Only Terrance West had more carries (seven) than Lewis, but West turned those carries into just 17 yards. The Browns also like Lewis' ability to catch the ball out of the backfield, and he showed prowess in this part of his game Saturday by catching two passes for 10 yards. The battle is still far from over, but at this point, Lewis seems to be edging out Isaiah Crowell and Chris Ogbonnaya for one of the final running back jobs with the team. This won't translate to much fantasy value out of the gates, but if something were to happen injury-wise to either Ben Tate or Terrance West, Lewis could be in line for more meaningful regular season snaps.

Lewis gained six yards on three carries during the Browns' preseason opener Saturday night. He also caught one pass out of the backfield for two yards.

Lewis did also lose a fumble in the contest, which usually doesn't bode well for young players under new head coaches. He did little to impress in this one elsewhere, although his reception is significant, as the Browns may utilize his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield once the regular season rolls along. Lewis is competing for one of the final running back spots on the roster, and the fact that neither Chris Ogbonnaya or undrafted free agent Isaiah Crowell carried the ball is a good sign for his chances of eventually making the cut. Ball security will certainly be a top priority when the 23-year-old takes the field for the Browns' next preseason tilt Aug. 18 against the Redskins.

Browns RB Dion Lewis missed some of OTAs and all of June minicamp with an undisclosed injury.

Lewis "insists" the injury is not related to last August's fractured fibula, which included ligament damage in his left leg and cost Lewis the entire season. Still, Lewis could've used the reps to make an impression on a new Browns coaching staff. The Akron Beacon Journal is skeptical of Lewis' fit in new OC Kyle Shanahan's zone-running offense. He's a brittle change-of-pace back.

Dion Lewis (leg) participated in the first day of the Browns offseason program.

Lewis fractured his left fibula during the second preseason game last year and was placed on injured reserve. He heads into the final year of his rookie deal fighting with the likes of Edwin Baker and Fozzy Whittaker for a roster spot behind clear-cut starter Ben Tate.

Browns placed RB Dion Lewis on injured reserve with a broken leg, ending his season.

As expected. Lewis fractured his left fibula in the Browns' second preseason game against the Lions. There was some speculation that Cleveland could use its short-term injured reserve spot on Lewis. Some combination of Chris Ogbonnaya and Brandon Jackson will open the season as Trent Richardson's direct backup. Lewis is signed for $645,000 in the final year of his contract next season.

Browns RB Dion Lewis (broken leg) is expected to be placed on injured reserve.

Lewis underwent surgery on Monday. He was a candidate for injured reserve/designated to return, but the Browns must not be confident he'd be ready by Week 8. Cleveland has a very uncertain situation behind bell-cow Trent Richardson.
