Pettis was released by the Chargers on Friday, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Pettis found himself among the first wave of roster cuts, having failed to beat out Dontrelle Inman and Jacoby Jones in the competition at wide receiver. The 27-year-old was waived by the Rams after five games last year, and has yet to surpass 40 catches in any season.

The Chargers have signed Pettis, the team's official site reports. The 2011 third-rounder caught just 12 passes for 118 yards and a TD in five games this past season before being cut by the Rams. The 6-3, 203-pounder will now look to revive his NFL career by competing for a spot in the Chargers' wideout corps.

The Rams have wived Pettis, NFL.com reports. Pettis, who caught five passes for 112 yards and a TD in five games this season, should catch on elsewhere before long, but he was squeezed out of the Rams' wideout mix by the likes of Brian Quick, Kenny Britt, Chris Givens, Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey.

Pettis (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Seahawks, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com. Pettis practice Thursday and Friday, so the ankle doesn't appear to be an issue. He has three catches in four straight games, though he's failed to reach even 50 yards in a game this season. With his ankle not likely an issue, it appears he's simply not high enough on the depth chart to warrant playing Sunday.

Pettis (ankle) is probable for Sunday's game against Seattle, St. Louis Post-Dispatch writer Jim Thomas reports. Pettis practiced fully Thursday and Friday, indicating his ankle issue is past him at this point. He has three catches in four straight games, so he might have some utility in very deep PPR formats.

Pettis (ankle) participated fully in Thursday's practice, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Jim Thomas reports. Assuming Pettis avoids any setbacks, the full practice Thursday is a good indicator this he is on track to play Sunday against Seattle. The Seahawks defense has actually been fairly vulnerable through the air this season (19th in passing yards allowed), but Pettis' upside is capped by his position on the depth chart below Kenny Britt and Brian Quick.

Pettis (ankle) didn't practice Wednesday, Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. After going without a target in Week 1, Pettis has gathered in exactly three balls in four consecutive games, totaling 12 receptions (on 18 targets) for 118 yards and one touchdown. No matter, Brian Quick and Jared Cook are the primary beneficiaries of Austin Davis passes, which contains Pettis to very deep formats. Pettis' ankle injury throws another wrench into his prospects, but his status could clear up by week's end.

Pettis caught three passes for 16 yards Monday in a 31-17 loss to the 49ers. Pettis is no higher than the fourth option for Rams quarterback Austin Davis, and is not explosive enough to merit much fantasy value with so few targets.

Pettis tallied a touchdown with three catches for 28 yards in a 34-31 loss to the Cowboys on Sunday. Pettis took advantage of Tavon Austin's absence, getting as many targets as No. 1 wideout Brian Quick. While Sunday was a decent fantasy output for Pettis, Austin may return after the Rams' bye and Pettis will be a touchdown-dependent option.

Pettis nabbed three passes for 46 yards in a 19-17 victory against Tampa Bay on Sunday. Pettis caught a key pass late in the game, and with Tavon Austin's availability up in the air, Pettis may move into the No. 3 receiver slot. St. Louis quarterbacks are yet to throw a touchdown pass this season, however, so Pettis has a fairly low ceiling.
