Palmer (shoulder) didn't throw in the portion of Thursday's practice open to the media, Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports.
Palmer's right throwing arm is ailing, after a 24-for-27, 304-yard performance Monday against the Chargers. His true activity won't be known until drills conclude, but his ultimate status for Week 2 against the Giants in New York may not emerge until the release of Friday's injury report.

Palmer was limited in practice Wednesday due to a shoulder injury, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
In Monday's opener, Palmer completed throws to 11 different receivers en route to 24-for-37 passing for 304 yard and two touchdowns. Moreover, he was sacked twice in the contest, but the Chargers otherwise failed to tally a QB hit. As a result, it's unclear when he suffered the injury, or its severity, so be sure to keep a close eye on his practice participation as the week goes on.

Palmer was not sharp in Sunday's preseason game against Cincinnati, completing just 7-of-19 pass attempts for 92 yards. He did not have a touchdown pass, but threw an interception.
Palmer was generally erratic, especially in the first quarter, missing Michael Floyd for a long touchdown pass on back-to-back plays during Arizona's opening possession. The veteran quarterback also threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown, as he and Larry Fitzgerald seemed to miscommunicate with one another on Fitzgerald's route. He had several other throws that should have been picked off, but Bengals defenders could not cleanly catch the ball. Despite the mediocre performance, there are a lot of weapons for Palmer to work with, namely Fitzgerald, Michael Floyd and Andre Ellington, so there is a good chance he can improve on last season's 4,274-yard and 24-touchdown campaign. The offensive line should also be a little better, as last year's first-round pick Jonathan Cooper will return after missing the entire 2013 season with a broken leg.

Palmer completed all five of his passes for 84 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason opener against the Texans.
Palmer couldn't have gotten off to a better start, though he did take one sack against a Texans team that stunk out the joint. The veteran signal-caller once again gets to work with Michael Floyd and Larry Fitzgerald, but while the Cardinals' offensive line should be improved, it still has the look of a below-average unit. Contending with NFC West teams behind a poor line is no easy task, and it would certainly help matters if some combination of Floyd, RB Andre Ellington and TE Rob Housler can step up. Ellington and Floyd played well last season, and both have a chance to make an even bigger impact this year.

Carson Palmer understands that the Cardinals might draft a quarterback.
Palmer has quit on two other teams for less, but has a realistic view of his future. "I know I'm not going to play forever," Palmer said. "It's hard for us players to admit that." Now 34, Palmer was something resembling effective in 2013, but posted a 24:22 TD:INT ratio across 572 passes. The Cardinals are unlikely to draft his successor on Day 1, but will undoubtedly keep an open mind with regards to signal callers in the middle rounds.

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians believes Carson Palmer has "plenty of juice left in the tank," and could play another 2-3 seasons.
"He's in great condition," Arians gushed. "I would think he could play until 36, 37 easily." Palmer turned 34 in December. It's debatable how much "juice" Palmer truly has left. He occasionally appeared done in 2013, and finished with a 24:22 TD:INT ratio. His "mobility" is nonexistent. He's still by far the Cardinals' best option, however. It would be far from surprising if GM Steve Keim drafted Arians a mid-round quarterback to develop.

The Arizona Republic confirms Carson Palmer is expected to remain the Cardinals' starting quarterback in 2014.
The Cards are also expected to retain Drew Stanton as Palmer's backup. Palmer turned 34 years old in December, so it's very conceivable that Arizona uses a top-100 draft pick on a quarterback. Palmer posted a 16:8 TD-to-INT ratio over the final nine games of 2013 and wound up posting a six-year high in completion rate (63.3) and career high in passing yards (4,274) under Bruce Arians. Palmer will be viewed as a fairly low-ceiling QB2 in 2014 fantasy circles.

Carson Palmer completed 28-of-49 passes for 407 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's Week 17 loss to the 49ers.
Palmer's declining arm strength and utter lack of mobility has been well documented. But when given two elite receivers and a Bruce Arians scheme, he predictably produced. Palmer ended up completing 362-of-572 passes (63.2 percent) for 4,274 yards (267.1 per game) with 24 touchdowns and 22 interceptions. The Cardinals need to get a quarterback of the future on their roster, but Palmer will almost certainly be the man in 2014 and a fine QB2 candidate once again. He's under contract through 2015.
