Fua suffered a "significant" right hamstring injury in what he termed a "freak accident" during warmups last week. Fua managed just nine tackles while starting every game as a rookie. He graded out as well below average in Pro Football Focus' metrics.

Panthers DT Sione Fua was held out of Sunday's win after suffering a hamstring injury in pre-game warmups.

"It was just a freak accident," said Fua, who is unsure of how much time he may miss. A third-round rookie, Fua had started every game before yesterday. He has just nine tackles and zero sacks.

Third-rounder Sione Fua and Corvey Irvin are listed as the Panthers' starting defensive tackles on the first depth chart of training camp.

The Panthers' run defense took a hit when Ron Edwards was lost to a torn triceps. Fua isn't a special talent, and 2009 third-rounder Irvin spent the 2010 season on the practice squad after being waived in September. This will remain an inviting matchup for fantasy backs.
