Texans LE and 2012 NFL Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt stated after the season that he's "still learning what I'm doing out there."
"Just wait 'til next year," Watt promised. "I'm 23 years old. I'm two years into the league. I'm still learning ... My second year is not going to be my best year in the NFL, I can promise you that." Andre Johnson suggested in December that Watt is on pace to become "probably the greatest Texan to come through here." Expect Watt to attract constant double and triple teams going forward.

J.J. Watt has been named the Associated Press' 2012 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
Watt was a near unanimous selection with 49 of a possible 50 votes. He finished first in the NFL with 20.5 sacks and 22 tackles for loss, and obliterated the unofficial records for batted passes (16) and defeats (56). Texans DC Wade Phillips insists DL J.J. Watt's 2012 season was the "absolute best" of any defensive lineman in NFL history.
Phillips has been a defensive line coach, coordinator, or head coach in the NFL since 1976. He will get no argument from us. In addition to his league-lead 20.5 sacks, Watt also obliterated the unofficial records for batted passes (16) and "defeats" in the run game (56). He also led the league in tackles for loss (22), had 76 QB disruptions, and posted a defensive stop on 17.2 percent of his snaps. Watt became the first player to earn a grade of +100.0 in Pro Football Focus' ratings. As dominant as Von Miller and Geno Atkins were in 2012, Watt is the easy choice for defensive player of the year.

Texans LE J.J. Watt is the first player since Kevin Greene in 1998 to have multiple sacks in each of the first four games in a season.
Since 1982, only eight players have registered more sacks than Watt's 7.5 in their first four games. The NFL's most dominant player was rewarded with AFC Defensive Player of the Month of the month honors. According to numbers compiled by Rotoworld's Evan Silva, Watt has tallied 40 tackles, 12 sacks, 17 QB hits, 16 tackles for loss, nine batted passes and a pick-six over his last eight games. He's been an unholy terror for a Texans defense that doesn't spend much time on the field thanks to an offense that ranks second in the NFL in average time of possession.
