Christian Ponder QB MIN 3 Days
Christian Ponder (concussion) has been cleared for Week 15.
The Vikings face Philadelphia next. Ponder is medically cleared, but whether he'll start remains to be seen. Backup Matt Cassel played well enough Sunday against Baltimore to keep Minnesota in the game late. The Vikings continue to let Josh Freeman rot as a healthy inactive third-stringer.
Christian Ponder QB MIN 4 Days
Vikings declared QB Christian Ponder, TE Kyle Rudolph, CB Josh Robinson, DT Chase Baker, G Jeff Baca, WR Rodney Smith and OT Mike Remmers.
It's a quiet list for the Vikings, who will start Matt Cassel in Ponder's absence. Cassel will be backed up by Josh Freeman. It's possible Rudolph (foot) could soon be shut down.
Christian Ponder QB MIN 7 Days
Christian Ponder (concussion) remained out of Vikings practice Thursday.
Ponder is now extremely unlikely to gain clearance in time for Sunday's game against the Ravens, leaving starting duties to Matt Cassel. It's not a terrible downgrade for the Vikings' skill players, but only Adrian Peterson will be worth starting.
Christian Ponder QB MIN 10 Days
Coach Leslie Frazier did not announce a Week 14 starting quarterback at his Monday press conference.
The Vikings are in wait-and-see mode with Christian Ponder, who suffered a concussion late in the second quarter of Sunday's win over Chicago. "There's no reason at this point on Monday at 12:40PM that we have to make a decision," Frazier said. "We can talk it through and do what's best." If Ponder can't play against the Ravens, either Matt Cassel or Josh Freeman would start.
Christian Ponder QB MIN 11 Days
Christian Ponder exited Sunday's Week 13 game against the Bears to be evaluated for a concussion.
Matt Cassel is warming up. Ponder's injury occurred at the tail end of the second quarter. He was 3-of-8 passing for 40 yards. The downgrade from Ponder to Cassel is negligible, but Cassel will be left as Minnesota's only healthy, active quarterback for the final two frames. Josh Freeman was scratched.
Christian Ponder QB MIN 17 Days
Coach Leslie Frazier confirmed following Sunday's Week 12 tie that Christian Ponder has earned the start in Week 13 against the Bears.
"I don't know any reason why he wouldn't (start again)," Frazier said. "I don't know if it would be helping our football team not to start him." Ponder went 21-of-30 passing for 233 yards and a touchdown, avoiding interceptions against the Packers. He'll be on the low-end QB2 radar against Chicago.
Christian Ponder QB MIN 24 Days
Coach Leslie Frazier was noncommittal when asked who would be the Vikings' starting quarterback for Week 12 against the Packers.
Frazier said he would get together with his coaching staff and make a decision this week. It's either going to be Christian Ponder or Josh Freeman. Matt Cassel likely doesn't have much of a chance to get the call. Ponder was horrific in the second half of Sunday's blowout loss to Seattle, completing just 4-of-9 passes for 15 yards and two interceptions. Freeman hasn't seen the field since his nightmare Monday night performance against the Giants in Week 7. If we were to make a guess on a Week 12 starter, our money is on Freeman.
