With Lewis gone, it could mean that Baltimore will hang onto preseason star Josh Woodrum as the third quarterback.

Lewis has posted a respectable 82.2 quarterback rating in seven career regular-season games, though he hasn't appeared in a contest since 2013.

After working with the third and fourth-team offenses for most of camp, the 27-year-old put forth an admirable performance, highlighted by a well-placed deep sideline completion to Josh Lenz. Considering Shaw's thumb injury is expected to sideline him long-term, Lewis should be a safe bet to earn a roster spot as the third-string quarterback behind Josh McCown and Johnny Manziel.

Heading into training camp, Lewis will likely rank no better than third or fourth on the Browns' quarterback depth chart, as he'll join a collection of signal callers that includes presumptive starter Josh McCown and two second-year players in Johnny Manziel and Connor Shaw. Lewis has bounced around the league the last few seasons as a backup, but does have some familiarity with the Browns' organization. He made a start for Cleveland in Week 17 of the 2012 season, completing 22-of-34 passes for 204 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in a 24-10 loss to the Steelers.

The Texans have waived Lewis, Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports. Lewis, who caught on with the Texans last November after Ryan Mallett was placed on injured reserve, will now look to catch on elsewhere as a depth quarterback.
