LeGarrette Blount RB NE 23 Hrs

LeGarrette Blount did not impress during offseason workouts.

Power backs like Blount are always going to look better once the pads go on, but this isn't a good start for a player that is firmly on the roster bubble. ESPN Boston suggests that the lumbering ex-Buc might not be able to handle the tempo the Patriots run their offense at. If Brandon Bolden (foot) can sustain health in camp, Blount could find himself on the street.

Upon his trade to the Patriots, LeGarrette Blount agreed to a $620,000 pay cut.

Blount was due a $1.25 million base salary before the trade, but the Patriots have slashed it to the $630,000 fourth-year veteran's minimum. He's also eligible for a $50,000 workout bonus. It's a low-risk deal for New England.

ESPN Boston lists LeGarrette Blount as the No. 5 running back on the Patriots' depth chart.

In terms of early-down backs, Blount is third behind Stevan Ridley and Brandon Bolden. Shane Vereen and Leon Washington are the passing-down backs. The Patriots did give up a seventh-round pick to get Blount, but he's certainly not a strong bet to make the final roster. Blount averaged 3.68 YPC last season and has nine fumbles on 426 NFL carries.

Patriots acquired RB LeGarrette Blount from the Bucs in exchange for RB Jeff Demps and a seventh-round pick.

It's stunning Bucs GM Mark Dominik was able to get anything for the one-dimensional, talent-deficient Blount, though Demps has made football second fiddle to his track career. That was a no-go for Bill Belichick, but apparently not his pal Greg Schiano. Blount is little more than a veteran flier for a Pats team that's already four deep at running back, but they'll presumably see how he fares as a short-yardage hammer in camp. Like every other role Blount has tried to fill, he's not effective in short-yardage situations. He won't be guaranteed a roster spot.

The Tampa Bay Times believes LeGarrette Blount is "still in play" for a potential trade.

The Tampa Tribune confirms that the Bucs won't be moving LeGarrette Blount to fullback.

The Bucs ask their fullbacks to block and catch passes out of the backfield. Blount is inefficient in both of those facets. Without a real role in Tampa, Blount could still be cut by the Bucs if they can't trade him for a pick in April's draft.

The Bucs are still trying to trade LeGarrette Blount.

Unsurprisingly, his market has been ice cold. Blount's one-year, $1.75 million deal contains no guaranteed money, so the Bucs' only impetus to get a deal done quickly would be to clear cap space. If a trade never materializes, the Bucs can still pull the plug on Blount's time with the team free of charge before Week 1.

MLive.com doesn't believe the Lions would be interested in trading for LeGarrette Blount.

"Detroit needs a speedy back," writes Anwar Richardson. "Acquiring Blount would not fill the lack of explosiveness in Detroit's run game." We don't see the fit, either. It's hard to see a team giving up much for a guy who has fumbled nine times in the last three years in limited action. Blount was also utterly terrible in short-yardage situations in 2012.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Bucs are trying to trade LeGarrette Blount after re-signing him to a one-year, $1.75 million contract on Saturday.

La Canfora thinks Blount could bring the Bucs a mid-round pick, and "some have suggested a fifth-round pick." Blount doesn't have a role in Tampa Bay's offense, and that was blatantly clear last season. La Canfora mentions the Lions as a possible trade partner. Detroit is looking for a scat back, not another plodder. We could see the Cowboys, Chargers, Rams, Titans, and Chiefs being interested.

Buccaneers signed backup RB LeGarrette Blount to a one-year deal.

He'll make $1.75 million, including $1.25 million in base salary, $350,000 in reporting bonus and a $150,000 workout bonus. With Doug Martin locked in as the bell cow back, Blount will again play a limited role for the Bucs in 2013. Last season, Blount was used sparingly, seeing just 93 offensive snaps.
