The Newark Star-Ledger wonders if impending free agent James Starks could be a "contingency plan" for the Giants.

Giants GM Jerry Reese recently said he'll put together a "contingency plan" should David Wilson (neck surgery) not be ready for the start of the 2014 season. Starks isn't likely to return to Green Bay. He also has a history with new Giants OC Ben McAdoo, is from New York, and went to college at Buffalo. Starks isn't going to break the bank and would be an upgrade on Andre Brown.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel doesn't expect the Packers to re-sign impending free agent James Starks.

"Starks is going to get a good offer somewhere, and the Packers aren't going to be able to match it," writes Tyler Dunne. The Packers have a plethora of free agents and holes to fill, so some players are going to have to hit the road. Starks ran with plenty of juice in 2013 and could be part of a timeshare elsewhere. The Packers have Johnathan Franklin and DuJuan Harris behind Eddie Lacy.

James Starks rushed five times for 29 yards and caught a 13-yard pass in Green Bay's playoff loss to San Francisco.

Starks played sparingly behind Eddie Lacy and John Kuhn, but delivered a clutch 13-yard reception on a late second-quarter checkdown to keep a drive alive. Starks tacked on a handful of chain-moving runs in the third quarter. An impending free agent, Starks is unlikely to generate serious interest as a 2014 starter, although we wouldn't rule it out. He ran with more energy than ever before this past season, and Starks can function in the pass game.

James Starks rushed three times for 12 yards in Green Bay's Week 15 win over the Cowboys, adding an 11-yard touchdown catch.

Starks' score came as he spelled a gassed Eddie Lacy. That's Starks' only role, keeping him off the re-draft radar for Week 16.

James Starks was limited to 19 yards on seven carries in the Packers' Week 14 win over the Falcons.

Starks' playing time received a bump when Eddie Lacy missed a handful of snaps following a late-second-quarter ankle injury, but otherwise he's just a change-up back and fantasy handcuff. Starks is barely worth rostering in 12-team leagues for fantasy playoff Weeks 15 and 16. The Packers play Dallas next.

James Starks rushed for 37 yards on three carries in Week 12 against the Vikings.

34 of those yards came on one carry. Eddie Lacy played almost every down, leaving very little for Starks. He's simply a handcuff for Lacy owners and holds very little standalone fantasy value.

James Starks rushed two times for minus-on yard in Week 11 against the Giants.

Eddie Lacy carried the backfield load. That, coupled with the Packers trailing on the scoreboard for much of the afternoon, left no work for Starks. He's simply a handcuff for Lacy owners. Starks has minimal standalone fantasy value.

James Starks rushed for 40 yards and one touchdown on six carries in Monday night's Week 9 loss to the Bears.

Starks' score came from 32 yards out on the first play of Green Bay's second possession following a blocked punt. You could have driven a semi truck through the gaping hole Starks shot through for the score. It was at least ten yards wide. Lead blocker John Kuhn didn't even have to lay a hat on a defender. Starks is going to continue to see 5-8 touches per game but is mostly a handcuff.

Packers OC Tom Clements used the term "hot hand" to describe Green Bay's backfield going forward.

The Packers want to increase James Starks' usage after his 7-57-1 line in last week's win over Minnesota. Eddie Lacy is going to remain a 20-plus touch candidate, but owners can't expect the 33 he saw against the Vikings. "Well, you want to get them both work," said Clements. "You don't want to overload one or the other but if one has the hot hand then you stick with him. So it's not a set plan as to how that works, but they're both going to play." Lacy remains an RB1 for Monday night against the Bears. Starks would be a risky flex option.

James Starks had seven carries for 57 yards and a touchdown in Sunday night's Week 8 win over the Vikings.

Starks was immediately reinserted as Eddie Lacy's backup after missing the last three weeks with a knee injury. He got the majority of his playing time in the second half, with his touchdown coming on a 25-yard run in the fourth quarter. Starks is nothing more than an RB4, but is worth owning as a handcuff to Lacy.
