The Vikings have signed Kafka, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports. With the Vikings, Kafka figures to battle with Pat Devlin for backup QB slotting behind Teddy Bridgewater and Shaun Hill.

The Buccaneers promoted Kafka to their active roster Thursday, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Signs are pointing toward starting quarterback Josh McCown (thumb) sitting out this week, so the Buccaneers decided to add Kafka to the roster to provide some quarterback depth. Mike Glennon would serve as the Buccaneers' starter if McCown is unable to go, and Kafka would be his backup.

Kafka was released by the Buccaneers on Saturday, the Tampa Bay Times reports. Kafka apparently didn't do enough in preseason to justify the Bucs keeping a third quarterback. He may end up on the team's practice squad, however.
