Colt McCoy QB WAS 2 Days

Coach Jay Gruden confirmed Wednesday that McCoy will start Sunday's game against the Colts, Mike Jones of the Washington Post reports.

While the team's plans at QB beyond Week 13 haven't been mapped out, McCoy would presumably need to struggle, or suffer an injury, for 3-8 Washington to consider another switch at the position this season. McCoy is thus worthy of a speculative add in order to see how he produces while helming the team's offense moving forward, though with no NFL teams on bye this week, he's initially only worth a look in deeper formats.

Washington is planning to start McCoy over Robert Griffin III on Sunday at Indianapolis, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

According to Schefter's report, the change may not be long lasting, but the team views McCoy as a short-term upgrade after Griffin struggled mightily against San Francisco. The 28-year-old has completed 85.7 percent of his passes (36 of 42) in two games this season, compiling 427 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and another score on the ground. Washington is 2-0 in the two games he played in, but he will have a tall task trying to match points with Andrew Luck and the Colts this week.

As expected, Robert Griffin III will start Sunday against the Vikings, with McCoy serving as the backup.

Washington is riding high after McCoy helped lead the team to a huge win over the Cowboys, but this is still RGIII's job to lose, so he'll be back under center now that he's healthy. If Griffin experiences a setback or aggravates the injury during the game, McCoy will obviously be waiting in the wings.

McCoy will be delegated to backup duties Sunday against the Vikings, as Robert Griffin (ankle) will take over the starting job,'s Ian Rapoport reports.

McCoy was apparently informed after practice Wednesday that he would be the backup for the Week 9 matchup in Minnesota. Griffin's ankle injury appears to be nearing full strength, so he'll get the starting nod for the first time since Week 2. McCoy more than proved he's a serviceable backup with his pristine accuracy Monday night, and will be the likely fallback option should Griffin experience discomfort at any point.

McCoy completed 25-of-30 passes for 299 yards, with 16 rushing yards, a rushing touchdown and an interception in Monday's 20-17 overtime win over the Cowboys.

Though there was a bad first-quarter interception and an ugly fourth-quarter sequence that knocked the Redskins out of range to kick a go-ahead field goal, McCoy mostly played a good game in his first start since 2011. He twice hit DeSean Jackson for long gains, and added a slew of short and intermediate passes to Washington's other receivers. As well as McCoy moved the ball, he didn't do any damage on the ground, with the exception of a seven-yard touchdown scamper on a designed quarterback draw on third down. McCoy still only figures to start until Robert Griffin (ankle) is ready, and the Redskins' next game is on the road against a Minnesota team that has been tough on opposing quarterbacks. With a bye waiting in Week 10, and the coaching staff perhaps now having a bit more confidence in McCoy, the Redskins may opt to play things safe with Griffin.

McCoy will start Monday night's game against Dallas.

Robert Griffin's inclusion on Washington's inactive list Monday offers final confirmation of McCoy's Monday night assignment against 6-1 Dallas, thus making him an option for those reserving a slot in their lineup this week for whichever Washington QB squared off against Tony Romo and the Cowboys.

As has been the case all week, McCoy is still expected to start at quarterback Monday night against the Cowboys, the Washington Post reports.

We've chronicled coach Jay Gruden's comments over the past few days as he as craftily avoided any definitive statements about Monday's starter, but all the signs have pointed to McCoy being the guy. Robert Griffin III (ankle) is expected to retake the job when he's fully healthy, but McCoy will get an opportunity to take on the 6-1 Cowboys under the Monday night lights.

McCoy again took the majority of the first-team reps in practice Friday, the Redskins' official site reports.

Robert Griffin III (ankle) was limited in practice, but coach Jay Gruden is maintaining, at least publicly, that Griffin still could start Monday night against the Cowboys. Gruden said he will not make a decision on Griffin's status until game day. All of this uncertainty could be nothing more than gamesmanship in an effort to keep the rival Cowboys guessing, but we will not know for sure until Monday. For now, McCoy remains the most likely starter.

Though coach Jay Gruden has yet to rule out Robert Griffin (ankle) for Monday night's game against Dallas, the team is proceeding as though McCoy will draw the start at quarterback, the Washington Post reports.

While Gruden suggested that a call on whether Griffin will be active or inactive this week may not come until Monday, when asked Thursday if he still plans to start McCoy at this stage, Gruden replied, "oh, yeah. Yeah." We'll revisit the situation no later than Friday, but in any case, McCoy represents a Week 8 fantasy dart against 6-1 Dallas.

While Robert Griffin had his most extensive workout to date it still appears likely that McCoy will start Sunday, the Washington Post reports.

McCoy and Griffin split practice reps but Head Coach Jay Gruden has stated Griffin has to prove he is completely healthy before returning to the field.
