Toby Gerhart RB JAC 7 Days

Gerhart, who had 18 carries for 42 rushing yards and two catches on two targets for 15 receiving yards Sunday against the Eagles, said after the game that his ankle "was definitely really sore," according to ESPN.com

Gerhart was questionable to return after leaving the game in the first quarter, but he eventually got 11 more carries as he was able to play through the pain. The injury is not expected to be serious, and while he could be limited early in practice this week, he doesn't appear to be in any jeopardy of missing Week 2 at the Redskins. Even with missing some time in the game, Gerhart finished with three times the carries as Denard Robinson and Jordan Todman combined, which shows the Jags are committed to using him as much as possible out of the backfield.

Gerhart, who left Sunday's game against the Eagles with an ankle issue, was later able to return to the contest.

Good news for the the Jaguars, with Gerhart having been brought in this offseason to serve as the team's top running back. Denard Robinson and Jordan Todman are currently listed as the team's No. 2 and No. 3 running backs, respectively.

Gerhart suffered a sprained ankle during the first half of Sunday's regular season opener and is listed as questionable to return, the Florida Times-Union reports.

Gerhart totaled seven carries for just 12 yards prior to exiting Sunday's game versus the Eagles. If he's unable to return, the Jaguars would likely lean on some combination of Denard Robinson and Jordan Todman at running back.

Gerhart rushed for 32 yards on 10 carries Friday against Detroit.

In limited action, Gerhart found little running room, failing to break off a gain of more than seven yards. Regardless, his double-digit carries were further indication of the workload he'll receive when the regular season begins. Projected across an entire game, Gerhart could see close to 20 carries per game as the featured back.

Gerhart (hip) gained 19 yards on six carries and eight yards on one reception in Thursday's preseason game against the Bears.

According to Nathan Jahnke of Pro Football Focus, Gerhart played the first 12 snaps of the game, and was then replaced by Jordan Todman, who handled the following 17 plays. Things seems to be shaping up as expected, with Gerhart likely to serve as the top back in early-down, goal-line and third-down situations. Todman and Denard Robinson/Storm Johnson figure to poach some touches, but Gerhart should be busy this season, if he can hold up to the workload. His career-high mark of 132 touches (109 carries, 23 receptions) occurred back in 2011, when Adrian Peterson missed four games for the Vikings.

Gerhart (hip) is expected to play Thursday against the Bears, Jaguars.com reports.

Gerhart missed a week-and-a-half recently with a hip flexor injury but said he plans to make his preseason debut Thursday. Coach Gus Bradley echoed the same message but indicated Gerhart's workload would be very light. "We're going to get him some reps," Bradley said. "It may be like four or five carries or something like that to get him going." Since Gerhart only returned to practice Tuesday, it makes sense that the Jaguars will start him off with only a few carries. His workload figures to increase as the preseason progresses, though, as he prepares for a role as the Jags' featured back.

Gerhart (hip) returned to practice Tuesday, NFL.com reports.

Gerhart missed more than a week while nursing a hip flexor injury. Considering that sideline spell, which included Jacksonville's preseason opener, Gerhart needed to return soon to be available for Friday's second exhibition outing. Barring a setback, the first-year Jaguar figures to play Friday, although his workload should be significantly lighter than what Gerhart expects to carry during the regular season.

Gerhart (hip flexor) could return to practice Tuesday, the Florida Times-Union reports.

Gerhart, who missed the Jags' first preseason game this past Friday, has not been ruled out for Thursday's game against Chicago, but we suspect that his chances of seeing work in the contest hinge on a Tuesday return to the practice field.

Gerhart (hip) is not practicing Monday, the Florida Times-Union reports.

Gerhart's hip flexor has kept him sidelined for the past week, including Friday's opening preseason game. Given that Gerhart is expected to be the Jaguars' workhorse running back this season, it's understandable that the team is allowing their new signing maximum rest to ensure Gerhart is fully healthy once he returns. Gerhart previously expressed hopes of playing this Thursday against the Bears, a situation that would probably require him to practice beforehand.

Gerhart (hip) hopes to earn some snaps in Thursday's preseason game in Chicago, Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union reports.

Since sustaining a hip flexor injury last weekend, Gerhart has been held out of all team activities, including Friday's win versus the Buccaneers. His optimism is an encouraging sign, but the Jaguars will ultimately have the final call on his next dose of contact.
