Toby Gerhart RB MIN 4 Months
Toby Gerhart rushed seven times for 20 yards and caught two passes for 11 yards in the Vikings' third preseason game.
It's hardly breaking news, but the Vikings' offense would tank quickly were Adrian Peterson to miss any time. Gerhart is a straight-line, downhill runner without burst or lateral moves, and adds nothing to what's blocked. Through three exhibition games, Gerhart has carried 17 times for 50 yards (2.94 YPC). Gerhart is not good enough to be worth drafting as an A.P. handcuff.

ESPN 1500 Twin Cities believes Toby Gerhart could be put on the trade block "once injuries start hitting in camp."
Ace beat writer Tom Pelissero touted Gerhart as a trade candidate earlier this offseason, and thinks the Vikes could use a mid- to late-round pick on a back with an eye toward a future trade. The No. 51 overall pick of the 2010 draft, Gerhart is going into the final year of his rookie deal. The Vikes value Gerhart as a pass-protector, but obviously have little use for his running ability behind freak-of-nature Adrian Peterson.

ESPN 1500 Twin Cities wonders if the Vikings could trade Toby Gerhart.
Gerhart is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and he's coming off a career-low season. Occasionally working in to spell Adrian Peterson, Gerhart rushed just 50 times for 169 yards (3.4 YPC) and one touchdown. He does have value as a third-down back who excels in pass protection, though, so he could bring back a late-round pick.

Toby Gerhart's 2013 salary jumped from $575,000 to $630,000 based on rookie-deal incentives.
Gerhart set career-lows all across the board in 2012 with Adrian Peterson putting up other-worldly numbers. Gerhart rushed just 50 times for 169 yards (3.4 YPC) and one touchdown. The 2010 second-rounder could possibly be on the trade block this offseason if the Vikings can find an upgrade.

Toby Gerhart fumbled three times in the final 3:33 of the Vikings' Week 3 win over the 49ers.
Adrian Peterson racked up 25 carries quickly, so the Vikings wanted to give him a little breather as they iced the game. Gerhart's performance may make them think twice about doing that again. He had just 18 yards on eight carries and was ridiculously careless with the football. There's nothing more than handcuff appeal here.

Toby Gerhart rushed eight times for 18 yards in the Vikings' Week 3 win over the 49ers.
He caught two passes for 20 yards. Gerhart didn't play extensively until late-game clock-killing mode, when it was clear Minnesota was going to pull off the upset victory. Gerhart is just a handcuff for Adrian Peterson owners.

Toby Gerhart is expected to be the Vikings' primary back against the Jaguars Sunday.
If Adrian Peterson (knee) is active, he'll have "limited exposure" according to coach Leslie Frazier. That leaves the feature back job to Gerhart, who has proved he is capable of handling big workloads before. In the five games that Peterson has missed over the last two seasons, Gerhart has averaged 21.0 touches. "We feel like we don't have to change any of our plays. We're very confident and comfortable with Toby being our lead back if that's the case," Frazier said.

Toby Gerhart rushed six times for 18 yards in Friday's preseason game against the Chargers.
He was held without a catch. Hardly an inspiring night for a player ticketed for a big early-season role as the Vikings ease in Adrian Peterson (knee). If Gerhart doesn't suit up for Minnesota's exhibition finale, he'll finish the preseason with 17 carries for 79 yards and one catch for 19 yards. Gerhart should be the Vikings' primary back in Week 1, but how touches are divvied up after that could be wholly dependent on AP's health.
