Edwards was released by the Bears on Friday, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports. Edwards needed a huge performance in Thursday's preseason finale to have a prayer at winning a roster spot and failed to cash in, logging no receptions in the contest. It looks like the Bears will go with either Micheal Spurlock or Chris Williams as their kick returner and No. 5 receiver.

Bears signed WR/KR Armanti Edwards. Edwards, the 89th pick in the 2010 draft, appeared in six games with the Panthers and Browns last season, catching one pass for ten yards and returning four punts for 28 yards. He has just six career grabs for 131 yards across 41 games. Edwards has never shown to be a dynamic returner. He'll compete for a spot.

Free agent WR/KR Armanti Edwards is working out for the Seahawks. The No. 89 overall pick of the 2010 draft, Edwards was essentially out of the league last season. He was waived after four catch-less games with the Panthers, and placed on injured reserve after three weeks in Cleveland. A workout warrior who's never shown anything on the field, Edwards would be a camp body for the world-champion Seahawks.

Panthers waived WR Armanti Edwards. Just like 2012, 2011 and 2010 before it, 2013 was not the breakout year for the No. 89 overall pick of the 2010 draft. Edwards will go down as one of the biggest busts of former Panthers GM Marty Hurney's comically poor drafting tenure. Edwards has just five catches in 39 career games, and has shown nothing on special teams. He's going to draw scant interest on the open market.

The Charlotte Observer believes Panthers WR Armanti Edwards' roster spot is safe even though he's missed over a week with a hamstring injury. Edwards' name has been synonymous with "bust" since he was the No. 89 overall pick of the 2010 draft, but he was coming on strong in camp before going down. The Panthers must sincerely believe the light bulb has come on if they're willing to keep Edwards even though he'll likely only appear in one preseason game. Even if Edwards eventually settles in as Carolina's No. 3 receiver, he's off the fantasy radar.

Panthers WR Armanti Edwards has been sidelined over a week with a hamstring injury. We wouldn't typically blurb up a soft-tissue injury for a chronic underachiever during camp, but Edwards had been making noise before going down. Coach Ron Rivera went as far as to call Edwards his "camp MVP." Now Edwards is back on the roster bubble. He desperately needs to suit up for Thursday's regular season dress rehearsal.

Coach Ron Rivera calls WR Armanti Edwards the Panthers' "training camp MVP." Oh boy. A gifted athlete, Edwards has always lit up practice. It's once things start going full speed in games that he struggles. Although Edwards has earned consistent plaudits for his performance this summer, it's worth noting that Rivera made similar comments last year. Edwards went on to catch just five passes. We're still not sure he's guaranteed a roster spot.

Coach Ron Rivera said Armanti Edwards has a "real chance" to be the No. 3 receiver. "[The] big question is him catching in traffic," Rivera said. "We'll see in the preseason games." This has been Edwards' best offseason of his four-year career, and the Charlotte Observer reported in June that he was finally "beginning to look like an NFL receiver." Edwards is competing with Ted Ginn and Domenik Hixon for No. 3 duties behind Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell.
