Bowman (knee) was placed on injured reserve Saturday.

Bowman's gruesome knee injury from last year's NFC Championship game ended up costing him the entirety of 2014. He will hopefully be at 100 percent health well in advance of next year. His absence means that Chris Borland might be the top IDP option at linebacker until the year's conclusion.

Bowman (knee) won't suit up Sunday in Seattle, the 49ers' official site reports.

Bowman, who hasn't made an appearance in practice this week, will instead attempt to make his season debut in Week 16 against the Chargers or Week 17 versus the Cardinals. As long as he's sidelined, though, Chris Borland and Michael Wilhoite will continue to hold down the fort at the 49ers' two inside linebacker spots.

Bowman (knee) was added to the 49ers' active roster Tuesday, CSN's Matt Maiocco reports.

The report did not add anything about Bowman's health or expected role, but he will be eligible to play this week for the first time all season. Bowman made 145 tackles last season, so if he plays a regular role down the stretch, he could be a late factor in leagues that use IDPs.

Bowman (knee) will spend this week rehabbing, not practicing, Daniel Brown of the San Jose Mercury News reports.

While Bowman was expected to practice last week, the fact that he is not practicing this week suggests there might have been a setback. He could very well miss the entire season.

Bowman (knee) is expected to practice next week, ESPN's Ed Werder reports.

Once Bowman begins practicing, the three-week clock begins to tick until the 49ers must either activate him or place him on season-ending injured reserve. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Friday that there is a "real possibility" that Bowman will not return this season, but the 49ers will see how his knee looks in practice before making that decision.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Friday that there is a "real possibility" Bowman (knee) will not play this season.

The 49ers must either add Bowman to their roster or place him on injured reserve by Tuesday, and this report suggests there is a good chance the latter is the option they end up choosing. Bowman could still be activated and placed on IR at a later date too, so he won't be totally out of the woods if he is activated next week. All in all, Bowman's status remains uncertain until the 49ers make an official decision.

Bowman's MRI on his left knee checked out "fine," but his time line for a return is unclear, CSN Bay Area reports.

Bowman is in the stretch run of his recovery from ACL and MCL tears suffered in last January's NFC Championship Game at Seattle. His current workout regimen includes running and change-of-direction at close to full speed, but the 49ers must decide by next Tuesday whether to introduce him to practice, which opens a 21-day window in which he can be activated, or place him on season-ending injured reserve. Expect caution to be exercised due to the serviceable play of replacement Michael Wilhoite at inside linebacker.

Bowman (knee) had an MRI performed Wednesday in order to determine if he'll return to practice next week, the Sacramento Bee reports.

The 49ers must make a decision by next Tuesday whether to open a 21-day window, during which Bowman either be activated from the PUP list or placed on injured reserve. Considering the more-than-steady play of Michael Wilhoite and Chris Borland at inside linebacker, the team is unlikely to slow play the latter stages of Bowman's recovery from last January's torn ACL.

Bowman (knee) has been cutting really well and might be cleared to practice as soon as Wednesday, Steve Corkan of the Contra Costa Times reports.

Wednesday would obviously be the optimistic return date for Bowman, and if he is limited this week, there's a good chance he won't play Sunday against the Giants. That said, it definitely sounds like Bowman is nearing a return to game action, and those in IDP leagues should have him on their radars.

Bowman (knee) is progressing well in his return from injury and recently ran a full-speed 40-yard dash, CSN Bay Area reports.

Bowman remains on the 49ers' PUP list after tearing his ACL in January, but is edging closer to a return to practice. The All Pro linebacker has been sprinting and working on change-of-direction running for the past several weeks. As a result, Bowman reportedly may be able to return toward the end of November, although the 49ers are yet to pin down a definitive timetable for when to expect him back in action.
