Jermaine Gresham TE CIN 8 Days

Gresham caught all three of his targets for 25 yards Sunday against the Falcons.

Gresham was expected to see a heavier load of targets with Tyler Eiftert sidelined with an elbow injury, but he actually had two fewer targets than in Week 1. Wide receiver A.J. Green suffered a toe injury during Sunday's game and if he's forced to miss Week 3 against the Titans, Gresham should get more looks.

Gresham should enjoy a larger role in the Bengals' offense, since fellow tight end Tyler Eifert has been placed on the team's injured reserve/designated to return list, ESPN reports.

Gresham experienced career-lows in receptions (46), targets (66), and yards (458) last season upon Eifert arriving in Cincinnati. While the Bengals still utilized plenty of two tight end sets, Gresham's usual amount of targets were somewhat split between he and Eifert last season. Now, with Eifert, as well as wideout Marvin Jones (foot) out, Gresham could rival running back Gio Bernard to be the second option in the Bengals' passing game behind star receiver A.J. Green.

Gresham caught two passes for 16 yards on five targets in Sunday's 23-16 win over the Ravens

Despite the slow start, Gresham's stock may rise, as fellow tight end Tyler Eifert left the game with an elbow injury that appeared serious. An extended Eifert absence wouldn't have much impact on Gresham's snap count, but it would mean more targets to go around, with Gresham and wide receivers Mohamed Sanu and Brandon Tate the most likely beneficiaries.

Gresham had one catch for 33 yards in Sunday's preseason game at Arizona. He was targeted twice.

Fellow tight end Tyler Eifert did not play due to his lingering shoulder injury, and Gresham was able to make once nice play. Gresham had been dealing with a hernia issue earlier in the preseason, but considering he's played the last two weeks, he appears to be OK moving forward. The bigger concern for Gresham is the presence of Eifert, who is considered by most to be the superior player.

Gresham (back/hernia) will be held out of the preseason opener Thursday.

Gresham just came off the PUP list on Monday, so this makes sense. Gresham's blocking ability will keep him on the field when he's healthy, but he's going to continue to lose targets to Tyler Eifert this year.

Gresham (hernia) has been removed from the Bengals' PUP list and cleared to practice, the team's official Twitter account reports.

Bengals placed TE Jermaine Gresham (back) on the active/PUP list.

Gresham underwent hernia surgery in the spring and missed OTAs and minicamp. He's not quite ready, but should be considered day-to-day or week-to-week. Gresham is way off the fantasy radar with Tyler Eifert in the fold.

Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham is sitting out OTAs while recovering from hernia surgery.

Gresham was previously described as sitting with a "physical issue." Why the Bengals thought they were gaining a competitive advantage by concealing the exact nature of Gresham's offseason injury is unclear. The Bengals' website hinted late last month that Gresham could miss the beginning of training camp, but he's expected to be ready for Week 1. Going into the final year of his rookie contract, Gresham should cede more snaps to Tyler Eifert than he did in 2013. He's a low-upside TE2 with little reason to be considered in fantasy leagues.

Jermaine Gresham is sitting out OTAs due to an undisclosed injury.

Per the Bengals' official website, Gresham is "dealing with a physical issue." Beat writer Geoff Hobson also indicates there's a chance Gresham could miss some time at the start of training camp, though it's not believed he'll be sidelined very long. Gresham is entering the final year of his deal and is a low-upside TE2.

Jermaine Gresham caught seven passes for 64 yards and a touchdown in the Bengals' playoff loss to San Diego.

Gresham scored his touchdown from four yards out midway through the second quarter on a dump-off pass from Andy Dalton. His receptions largely consisted of checkdowns, and Gresham played a bigger role than usual with Tyler Eifert nursing a shoulder injury. Gresham is under contract for $2,235,750 in 2014, including a $200,000 workout bonus. We suspect he will return to the Bengals unless Eifert makes major strides as a blocker during OTAs and training camp.
