Jermaine Gresham TE CIN 2 Months

Gresham (back) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Colts.

Already without star wide receiver A.J. Green, the Bengals' passing attack takes another hit on Sunday. With Gresham out, Ryan Hewitt and Kevin Brock are candidates to see added work at tight end in the Cincinnati offense, while Green's absence paves the way for Mohamed Sanu and Brandon Tate to head the team's receiving corps in Sunday's wild card tilt against Indianapolis.

Gresham (back) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Colts, Paul Dehner Jr. of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

With A.J. Green (concussion) listed as doubtful, Gresham could be in line for added targets, if he is able to suit up. The veteran tight end practiced on a limited basis Friday, after missing practice both Wednesday and Thursday. While the back injury is not believed to be too serious, the lack of practice participation leaves Gresham's availability in doubt. Cincinnati's backup tight ends, Ryan Hewitt and Kevin Brock, have 20 combined receptions in their careers.

Gresham (back) returned to practice Friday, Paul Dehner Jr. of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

It's unclear whether Gresham was a full participant, but the official listing will be available Friday afternoon. While the veteran tight end didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday, his back injury is not believed to be overly serious. In the event that Gresham suits up and A.J. Green (concussion) doesn't, the tight end would likely see added targets Sunday against the Colts.

Gresham (back) did not practice Thursday, ESPN's Coley Harvey reports.

More on Gresham's status Friday, but if he is out or limited at all on Sunday against the Colts, Ryan Hewitt and Kevin Brock would be next in line for the Bengals' tight end snaps in the team's playoff opener.

Gresham caught 3-of-3 targets for 20 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-17 loss to the Steelers.

Gresham missed a good chunk of the first half while dealing with a back injury, and he appeared to hurt his leg on his five-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. According to ESPN's Coley Harvey, the leg issue was merely a cramp. Gresham may be on the injury report for Sunday's wild-card game against the Colts, but he should be able to suit up. A.J. Green (concussion) is seemingly in more danger of missing the game, though it's still far too early to make any sort of judgement. Should Green end up sitting, Gresham could see extra targets.

Gresham, who suffered the injury during the first quarter, was initially deemed probable to return. He was downgraded shortly thereafter, and he'll finish with just one catch for six yards, if he isn't able to return. Ryan Hewitt and Kevin Brock are the Bengals' remaining tight ends.

Gresham (toe) caught 9-of-11 targets for 62 yards and a touchdown in Monday's 37-28 win over the Broncos.

Gresham was the only Bengal with more than five targets, as A.J. Green missed a good chunk of the game because of a bruised biceps. The veteran tight end unsurprisingly recorded just 6.9 yards per reception, but he now has four touchdowns over the last five games, and he may be in for another heavy workload in Week 17, if Green is unable to play. The Bengals will face the Steelers on Sunday night, with the AFC North crown on the line.

Gresham (toe) is listed as active for Monday's game against Denver.

Though Gresham's yardage totals of late have been modest, the tight end who returns after a one-game absence has scored in two of his last four games, which makes him worthy of deep-league consideration.
