Davis was cut by the 49ers on Wednesday after he was reinstated by the league, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
Davis had gotten a second chance by the 49ers after he elected to un-retire from the game in 2016, but was cut by the team before he could get his third chance to return to the game. He was the 11th overall pick in 2010, and started in every game of his first four seasons with the team, including eight games in the postseason. Davis is now free to sign with another squad willing to give him another shot.

Davis (concussion) was placed on the 49ers' reserve/left squad list on Monday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Davis' placement on this list bars him from returning at any point this season. Davis has now retired twice in his NFL career, but this most recent occurrence is most likely his last.

Davis (concussion) informed the 49ers on Monday that he is retiring from the NFL, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Davis had previously retired prior to the 2015 season, but attempted a comeback this year. He played three snaps in the season-opener against the Rams before missing the following two weeks with a concussion. The 49ers will likely make a subsequent roster move to replenish the depth in their offensive line.

Davis (concussion) will not play in the 49ers' Week 2 matchup with the Panthers.
EDGE Analysis
Davis played in San Francisco's Week 1 demolition of the Rams, and while it's unclear when he suffered the injury, he'll be require to pass through the NFL's concussion protocol before suiting up. Anthony Tiller projects to slide in at guard in his absence.

Davis did not practice Saturday due to personal reasons, Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group reports.
EDGE Analysis
There are various reports circulating that Davis is once again considering retirement. While nothing is set in stone, Davis' situation is something to keep an eye on as San Francisco preps for Monday's season opener. If Davis does not play Monday, Andrew Tiller is expected to start at right guard for the 49ers.

Davis will switch from tackle to guard, CSN Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
Before his brief retirement during the 2015 season Davis was considered an above-average right tackle. With Trenton Brown holding his own at that position Davis will make the move from right tackle to right guard this season in an effort to earn a starting job. It is generally believed that tackle is a harder position to play than guard so he shouldn't have too much difficulty making the switch. Davis will play with the first unit this Friday against Green Bay.

Davis -- who was recently reinstated off the reserve/retired list -- will have to compete for a starting job during training camp, CSN Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
This should come as no surprise after Davis missed the entire 2015 season during his brief retirement. He reportedly performed well during his conditioning test Saturday and should have no problem winning the right tackle job if he is anywhere close to his 2014 self.

Davis announced his retirement from the NFL on Friday, ESPN reports. Davis' retirement statement details his desire for time off from football for his brain and body to heal. As already one of the NFL's premier offensive tackles at just 25 years old, Davis' retirement is certainly surprising, but it appears health concerns played a prominent role in his decision. In retiring, Davis joins Patrick Willis, Justin Smith and Chris Borland as key 49ers that have all decided to hang up their cleats this offseason.
