Foster (undisclosed) said he contemplated retirement after undergoing back surgery last year, the Houston Chronicle reports.
Foster, who sat out Monday's practice, was somewhat philosophical in an interview with ESPN, saying he re-evaluated his life following the surgery. He's still listed as Houston's lead back, but injuries are piling up after three healthy seasons. He missed all of the 2013 preseason and was limited to eight games because of the back.

Arian Foster (hamstring) returned to practice Wednesday.
Foster only missed a day or two with what the team called a "minor" injury. It was worth noting nonetheless after Foster battled injuries all last summer and ended up missing half the season after back surgery. We don't have a problem with Foster and his second-round ADP, but owners are taking on plenty of risk.

Arian Foster is sidelined at Texans camp with what is believed to be a hamstring injury.
Although the Texans insist Foster's injury is "minor," it's pretty troubling he's already missing time after battling hamstring woes over the years. "He's dealing with something," coach Bill O'Brien said. "He'll be fine. He'll be back. It's a minor deal. You know, it's a long season. He'll be out there."

Arian Foster said new coach Bill O'Brien "has expressed many times how he wants to use me a lot out of the backfield."
It's playing to Foster's strengths. Sporting both soft hands and excellent vision in the screen game, he averaged 4.1 catches per game while breaking out between 2010 and 2011. That number fell to 2.5 per game as the Texans' offense went conservative in 2012 and last season, but O'Brien is going to be a breath of fresh air. Now healthy and the unquestioned centerpiece of the offense, Foster is a candidate for 300 carries plus 55 catches.

Arian Foster declared himself "healthy and rearing to go" Wednesday, following his 2013 back operation.
Foster participated fully in OTAs, so this isn't a surprise. He described rookie coach Bill O'Brien's offense as "very versatile," and said O'Brien has told him Foster will be utilized "in the running game and out of the backfield." As the Texans manage severe 2014 quarterback deficiencies, expect Foster to handle all-purpose bellcow duties as a recommended fantasy bounce-back pick.

Speaking Thursday, Arian Foster (back surgery) confirmed he'll be ready for OTAs.
Foster reaffirmed that his back is "fine." Speaking earlier in the week, Foster said his operation "wasn't as major as it sounded." Foster's durability is very much a question mark heading into his age-28 season, but he should remain a three-down workhorse for as long as he's on the field. He's still in the RB1 conversation.
