The Vikings have expressed interest in free agent RB/KR LaRod Stephens-Howling. With Toby Gerhart gone, the Vikings are looking to add depth behind Adrian Peterson. Stephens-Howling shouldn't require more than a veteran minimum deal coming off ACL surgery, and could be a fit on special teams and in a third-down role. Matt Asiata, Bradley Randle and Joe Banyard are the only running backs on the Vikings roster behind Peterson.

ESPN.com's Scott Brown expects the Steelers to re-sign free agent RB/KR LaRod Stephens-Howling. Stephens-Howling missed nearly the entire season due to ACL surgery, but is five months removed from the injury and could be ready for the start of training camp. The Steelers don't currently have any running backs on their roster behind Le'Veon Bell, with Stephens-Howling, Jonathan Dwyer, and Felix Jones all free agents. Stephens-Howling would be strictly a depth signing if brought back and will only require a non-guaranteed, veteran minimum contract.

Steelers RB/KR La'Rod Stephens-Howling is out for the season with a torn ACL. Not only did Pittsburgh lose its home opener to the Titans, the Steelers lost C Maurkice Pouncey, ILB Larry Foote, and Stephens-Howling to year-ending injuries. A somewhat dynamic scatback and Pro Bowl-caliber return specialist, Stephens-Howling's loss will be felt more in real life than fantasy. But it's a big blow. Look for the Steelers to continue to lean on Isaac Redman and Felix Jones in the backfield until Le'Veon Bell (foot) returns. They may consider re-signing Baron Batch or Jonathan Dwyer, though it's also possible the Steelers turned the page on Dwyer for good at final cuts.

La'Rod Stephens-Howling left Sunday's Week 1 game against the Titans in the third quarter with a knee injury and will not return. It's a tough blow for Stephens-Howling because he was operating as the feature back in the second half. Isaac Redman and Felix Jones had both been benched for ineffectiveness. LSH finishes with six carries for 19 yards and two catches for 11 yards. The severity of his knee injury is unknown, but there's a decent chance the Steelers are leaning heavily on Le'Veon Bell by the time Stephens-Howling gets back.

The Steelers' website expects a "division of labor" in the running game until Le'Veon Bell (foot) returns. Beat writer Bob Labriola expects Isaac Redman and Felix Jones to "share the bulk of the carries from scrimmage," while La'Rod Stephens-Howling plays on obvious passing downs and is used some as a ball carrier in space. It'll be a value-draining fantasy situation, to be sure. Look for the Steelers to throw more early in the season as their best way to generate ball movement.

Steelers RB La'Rod Stephens-Howling may miss the rest of the preseason with a "mild" MCL sprain. This explains the acquisition of Felix Jones, who still may be no more than a camp body until September's final cuts. Stephens-Howling does seem likely to be back for Week 1. He's a scatback, third-down specialist, and return man.

La'Rod Stephens-Howling had seven carries for 40 yards in Saturday night's preseason game. With Le'Veon Bell inactive, Stephens-Howling saw playing time with the first team offense and was used in a committee with Isaac Redman. He managed a pair of long runs in the Steelers' no-huddle offense and averaged 5.7 yards-per-carry. Because of his special teams value, Stephens-Howling is a strong candidate for the 53-man roster.

Free agent RB La'Rod Stephens-Howling is visiting the Steelers Wednesday. The Steelers currently only have plodders (Jonathan Dwyer, Isaac Redman, Baron Batch) in the their backfield. The 5'7/185 Stephens-Howling could fill a scatback role and pitch in on kick returns. "Hyphen" is from Johnstown, Pa. and played his college ball at Pitt.
