Vontae Davis DB IND 13 Days

Davis had two total tackles and defended two passes in Sunday's loss at Denver.

Davis had a sore foot in the preseason but looked healthy Sunday and had a strong game in pass coverage.

Davis was wearing a walking boot on his left foot Wednesday, but is expected to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Giants, ESPN reports.

Davis has also been bothered by a "soft tissue" injury in training camp, but it doesn't sound serious if he's going to play this week.

Colts re-signed CB Vontae Davis to a four-year, $39 million contract.

The deal includes a whopping $20 million guaranteed. Monday reports had Davis getting away from Indy, but the Colts were never going to let a player they surrendered a 2013 second-rounder for get away without a fight. Davis can be a bit of a knucklehead, but is a legitimately elite player when on his game. He was in 2013, grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 3 corner.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Colts are "nearing a deal" with free agent RCB Vontae Davis.

La Canfora says there's "every expectation" the sides will strike an accord by Monday. If so, Davis will never make it to Tuesday's open market. Davis is seeking a contract worth in excess of $8 million per year, and perhaps closer to $10 million annually after Sam Shields broke the bank in Green Bay. Davis is better than Shields. He's also younger, turning 26 years old this May.

The Indianapolis Star reports free agent CB Vontae Davis is looking for a deal in excess of Brent Grimes' four-year, $32 million contract.

The Indianapolis Star reports the Colts and free agent CB Vontae Davis aren't close to a deal.

"No deal is imminent, and the sides are relatively far apart in negotiations," writes Stephen Holder. The Colts have roughly 12 hours before Davis' agent can legally begin negotiating with the other 31 teams. At this point, Davis may as well test the open market and see what's out there. The Colts badly want to re-sign Davis but seem unwilling to commit the top dollars he wants right now.

CBS' Jason La Canfora reports that the Colts will not use the franchise tag on free agent CB Vontae Davis.

The deadline to apply the tag is Monday at 4pm ET. By not using it on Davis, the Colts are running the risk of losing PFF's No. 3 corner from 2013 and a guy they gave up a second-round pick to land last August. Ultimately, however, we'd expect a deal to get done here. The Colts have the fourth-most cap space in the league and Davis' press skills are a key to their defense. He came in 16th on Evan Silva's top-150 free agents list.

The Colts and free agent CB Vontae Davis are still in the early stages of contract talks.

The Colts better get moving on their No. 1 priority. Per the Indy Star, a deal with PFF's No. 3 overall corner is "far from imminent" with free agency set to open on March 11. Davis is going to be expensive, but the Colts have tons of cap space and desperately need their elite every-down press corner. We'd be surprised if their wasn't a reunion here.
