Danny Woodhead RB SD 3 Months

Danny Woodhead rushed for 29 yards on nine carries and caught three passes for ten yards in San Diego's Divisional Round playoff loss.

With Ryan Mathews (ankle) severely limited, Woodhead took over as San Diego's primary back. Despite a bigger workload than usual, Woodhead failed to generate big plays and the Chargers' offense was almost entirely ineffective, but mostly so on the ground. Under contract for $1.75 million in 2014, Woodhead will return to San Diego in a Sprolesian "passing back" role. He should remain a flex option in standard leagues, with low-end RB2 upside in PPR. Woodhead set career highs in catches (76) and TDs (8) in his first year under offensive mastermind Mike McCoy.

Danny Woodhead rushed 15 times for 54 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for 14 yards in the Chargers' Wild Card win.

Committed to a run-heavy game plan, the Chargers mixed and matched tailbacks Ryan Mathews, Woodhead, and Ronnie Brown early in Sunday's game. Woodhead got a goal-line carry toward the end of the first frame, executing from five yards out to give San Diego an early 7-0 lead. When Mathews re-tweaked a preexisting ankle injury in the third quarter, Woodhead took over as San Diego's primary back and performed more than capably, dodging defenders and squirting through small spaces. Expect fewer touches from Woodhead if Mathews is available for next week's Divisional Round matchup with the Broncos.

Danny Woodhead rushed nine times for 29 yards in San Diego's Week 15 win over the Broncos, adding one catch for 13 yards.

Woodhead took a backseat to Ryan Mathews, getting out-touched 30-10. Woodhead made his biggest impact in pass protection, where he threw some big and well-timed blocks. Woodhead remains the Chargers' preferred passing-down back, but no longer has exclusive rights to third downs over Mathews. Woodhead's standard-league FLEX appeal is on the wane with Mathews playing the best football of his career, though he remains an every-week option in PPR formats.

Danny Woodhead rushed seven times for 42 yards and caught 4-of-5 targets for 52 yards and a touchdown in the Chargers' Week 14 win over the Giants.

So much for his declining role. Woodhead had been playing fewer snaps and seeing fewer touches recently due to Ryan Mathews' outstanding play, but on Sunday they both got theirs in a dominant win. Mathews racked up a season-high 32 touches, while Woodhead made his 11 count. Woodhead will be a terrific flex/RB2 when the Chargers play the Broncos next in a game sure to have a high over-under.

Danny Woodhead rushed six times for 27 yards in San Diego's Week 10 loss to the Broncos, adding four catches for 17 yards and a touchdown.

Woodhead's seven-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter was of the "hard-earned" variety, as he took a number of big hits as he fought his way to the goal line. Woodhead is averaging just 3.73 yards on his 59 carries this season, but is now up to 53/408/4 as a receiver. He remains a strong FLEX option with more upside in PPR leagues than standard formats.

Danny Woodhead rushed seven times for 21 yards and caught nine passes for 77 yards in Sunday's Week 9 overtime loss to the Redskins.

Woodhead remains a focal point of the Chargers offense week in and week out. If the defense is in man coverage, they split Woodhead out and let him burn a linebacker. Against zone, he finds holes over the middle and makes things happen. He even got a goal-line chance in this game, but didn't convert. Still Woodhead is on pace for 1,168 total yards, 98 receptions and eight touchdowns. With the Chargers figuring to trail against the Broncos in Week 10, he's a strong flex candidate -- with monstrous PPR upside.

Danny Woodhead rushed nine times for 29 yards and a touchdown and caught four passes for 47 yards in the Chargers' Week 7 win over Jacksonville.

Woodhead matched his season average of 13 touches per game, and punched in a goal-line score in the first quarter from two yards out to make his day worthwhile in fantasy football. Playing the old Darren Sproles role for Philip Rivers, Woodhead has settled in as an every-week starter in PPR leagues. He's a week-to-week flex option in standard formats. The Chargers have a Week 8 bye. Keep Woodhead locked onto rosters during the off week.

Danny Woodhead rushed for 36 yards on nine carries and caught five passes for 47 yards in Week 6 versus the Colts.

It was a normal day at the office for Woodhead. The nine carries matched a season-high, which he has now done three times. Colts linebackers struggle in coverage, and Woodhead took advantage of that on a couple of third-down pickups. The 5-foot-8 diminutive back squirted through a couple of tight creases in the run game, as well. Woodhead saw a couple of red-zone carries but failed to find the end zone for the first time since Week 3. He remains a solid PPR RB3/flex.
