Danny Woodhead RB SD 10 Hrs

Woodhead (ankle) suffered a severe high ankle sprain and a fractured fibula, meaning he'll likely require season-ending surgery, FOX Sports 1's Alex Marvez reports.

The diagnosis hasn't been confirmed by a Chargers beat reporter, but the San Diego Union Tribune suggests that the injury is likely serious. With Ryan Mathews (knee) already expected to miss the next few games due to a sprained MCL, Donald Brown now figures to see even more of the ball. Brown, who had already replaced Mathews as the early-down back, is positioned to assume Woodhead's role on passing downs. Undrafted rookie Branden Olivier is the only other running back on the roster, but Marion Grice will likely be signed from the practice squad.

Woodhead (ankle) is slated to undergo further testing on his ankle Sunday night, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Woodhead was carted off of the field Sunday against the Bills after sustaining an ankle injury on the Chargers' opening drive and upon his exit, the team's only healthy running backs for the rest of the day were Donald Brown and Branden Oliver. More on Woodhead's status as we know it, but the San Diego Union Tribune suggests that his injury could be fairly serious.

Danny Woodhead RB SD 15 Hrs

Woodhead (ankle) has officially been ruled out for a return to Sunday's game against the Bills.

Woodhead was carted off the field in the first quarter with what looked to be a severe ankle injury, so it's no surprise he'll be held out the rest of the contest. The Chargers will likely send him in for tests to determine if he suffered any sort of dislocation or break, either of which would sideline him for further weeks. Donald Brown will be the bell cow for the remainder of Sunday's game for the Chargers, and could continue to occupy the top spot on the depth chart if Woodhead's injury proves to be significant.

Danny Woodhead RB SD 7 Days

Woodhead had eight carries for 32 yards and caught four passes for 28 yards in Sunday's win over Seattle.

The big news is that Ryan Mathews left the game with a knee injury. Woodhead would likely see additional carries if Mathews is out for an extended period of time, but he's still a better option in PPR leagues though, as he probably wouldn't be used at the goal line much.

Danny Woodhead RB SD 13 Days

Woodhead had six carries for five yards and one catch for six yards Monday night.

The Cardinals are especially tough against the run, so Woodhead's struggles don't mean much. We'd like to have seen him targeted more in the passing game, however.

Danny Woodhead RB SD 1 Month

Woodhead had six carries for 24 yards and one reception for reception for five yards in Friday's preseason game against the Seahawks.

With Ryan Mathews sitting out, Woodhead got a few extra carries, working in tandem with Donald Brown. Now that he has both Mathews and Brown to contend with, Woodhead may have a hard time matching his 106 carries from last season, though he still figures to dominate the third-down workload.

Danny Woodhead RB SD 2 Months

Chargers signed RB Danny Woodhead to a two-year contract extension through 2016.

Financial terms are not yet available, though Woodhead is currently scheduled to make $1.75 million this season. Heading into his age-29 campaign, Woodhead set new career highs with 76 catches and 106 carries in 2013. He'll remain the Bolts' primary passing-down back this season, but should cede touches to Donald Brown. Woodhead is an RB2/3 in PPR leagues.

Danny Woodhead RB SD 8 Months

Danny Woodhead rushed for 29 yards on nine carries and caught three passes for ten yards in San Diego's Divisional Round playoff loss.

With Ryan Mathews (ankle) severely limited, Woodhead took over as San Diego's primary back. Despite a bigger workload than usual, Woodhead failed to generate big plays and the Chargers' offense was almost entirely ineffective, but mostly so on the ground. Under contract for $1.75 million in 2014, Woodhead will return to San Diego in a Sprolesian "passing back" role. He should remain a flex option in standard leagues, with low-end RB2 upside in PPR. Woodhead set career highs in catches (76) and TDs (8) in his first year under offensive mastermind Mike McCoy.
