Peyton Hillis RB NYG 3 Months

Giants RB Peyton Hillis has missed a few practices with a minor muscle strain.

Hillis does not expect to miss much time and could return as early as minicamp. This setback is not a good development for Hillis, who may be fighting for his roster spot during training camp. If David Wilson is healthy, Hillis will enter 2014 as at best the No. 4 running back in New York.

The Newark Star-Ledger believes Peyton Hillis' roster spot is in jeopardy.

The Giants drafted fellow big back Andre Williams in the fourth round and are already high on him. Hillis inked a one-year deal to re-up with the G-Men back in March, but it included just $100,000 guaranteed. Rashad Jennings, Williams, and David Wilson are tentatively expected to be the Giants' top three backs.

Peyton Hillis' contract with the Giants only contains $100,000 in guaranteed money.

Giants re-signed RB Peyton Hillis to a two-year, $1.8 million contract.

Hillis, 28, signed off the street last year and rushed for 247 yards with two TDs on 73 carries (3.4 YPC), appearing in seven games and starting one. He should be viewed internally by the Giants as no more than an insurance policy. Hillis is a plus pass blocker, but offers no big-play ability as a runner, is in decline, and has a history of fumbling problems. He's an uninspiring re-signing.

The NY Daily News is "hearing" the Giants will re-sign free agent Peyton Hillis "probably today."

The G-Men just need bodies in the backfield with Andre Brown's contract up and David Wilson's (neck surgery) Week 1 availability uncertain. It would've been nice to see them aim higher than Hillis, however. He's an oversized plodder.

Peyton Hillis (concussion) resumed practicing Thursday.

Barring a setback, Hillis should be ready to back up Andre Brown, who has also resumed practicing after suffering a concussion of his own in Week 16. A soon-to-be 28-year-old plodder with no playmaking ability, Hillis is going to have a hard time finding work in the offseason.

Peyton Hillis has passed his concussion test.

Hillis missed Week 16 due to his concussion, but has been cleared to resume practicing. He'll likely serve as the No. 2 running back behind Andre Brown if active for Sunday's game against Washington.

Giants declared RB Peyton Hillis, WR Victor Cruz, OL David Diehl, DE Jason Pierre-Paul, S/LB Cooper Taylor, LB Allen Bradford, and QB Ryan Nassib inactive for Week 16 against the Lions.

There are no surprises in this group; Hillis, Cruz, and JPP had already been ruled out. Look for Andre Brown to dominate tailback snaps and touches.
