Hillis (ankle) will be out for "a little while", according to coach Tom Coughlin, the New York Daily News reports.

Hillis sprained his ankle during Tuesday's practice and is also nursing a foot injury, so he needs time for both ailments to heal. As such, Hillis will be held out of both practice and games until further notice. Although neither injury is considered serious, Hillis' absence opens more opportunity for rookie Andre Williams to stake his claim to be the Giants' No. 2 running back behind Rashad Jennings. With that in mind, Hillis may have to play catch-up whenever he eventually returns this preseason.

Rashad Jennings will continue to serve as the No. 1 back for the Giants, while the injury paves the way for Andre Williams to take reps with the second team.
