Ryan announced via his personal Twitter account Monday that he is joining CBS Sports as an NFL analyst beginning in the 2023 season.
EDGE Analysis
Ryan said "this is not a retirement" in the announcement, indicating that he could still be lured back to the NFL field if a team were to make him an intriguing job offer. Of course, now heading into his age-38 campaign, Ryan likely isn't a candidate for more than a backup gig. Through 12 appearances with the Colts last year, he averaged 255 passing yards per game and logged just a 14:13 TD:INT.

The Colts officially released Ryan on Wednesday, JJ Stankevitz of the team's official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Per Scott Horner of the Indianapolis Star, by cutting the 37-year-old, the Colts freed up $17 million in salary cap space. In the wake of Ryan's departure, fellow quarterbacks Nick Foles and Sam Ehlinger remain under contract with Indianapolis, with the team expected to add depth at the position this offseason.

The Colts are slated to release Ryan, Jeff Howe of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran QB was supplanted as the Colts' starter in his lone campaign with the team, so it's not a surprise that he'll be let go ahead of the coming season. Meanwhile, parting ways with the 37-year-old is in line to provide Indy with over $17 million in salary-cap relief, per Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star.

Ryan (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's Week 17 game against the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran signal-caller will once again be left off the game day roster in favor of second-year pro Sam Ehlinger, who'll serve as starter Nick Foles' backup. Barring an injury to either of the two players in front of him, Ryan appears destined for the same status in next Sunday's regular-season finale against the Texans.

Ryan is inactive for Monday night's game against the Chargers.
EDGE Analysis
With Ryan officially inactive Monday, Sam Ehlinger will back up Nick Foles in Week 16. Per Stephen Holder of ESPN.com, the Colts' current plan is to start Foles for the team's final three games.

Sam Ehlinger will back up Nick Foles versus the Chargers on Monday, with Ryan in line to be the Colts' No. 3 quarterback Week 16, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports.
EDGE Analysis
Interim head coach Jeff Saturday announced Wednesday that Ryan would be benched in favor of Foles, and now it looks like the veteran signal-caller will be inactive Monday. Ryan is unlikely to see any more game action for the 4-9-1 Colts, who have been eliminated from playoff contention.

Interim head coach Jeff Saturday announced Wednesday that Ryan will be benched in favor of Nick Foles, who will start Monday's game against the Chargers, JJ Stankevitz of the Colts' official site reports. "I feel like Nick will give us a better chance to win these last three games," Saturday said.
EDGE Analysis
Ryan will receive his second demotion of the season, with his latest coming after he completed 19 of 33 attempts for 182 yards and a touchdown while taking three sacks in the Colts' 39-36 overtime loss to the Vikings, which dropped Indianapolis to 4-9-1. At this stage, it's unclear whether Ryan or Sam Ehlinger will serve as Foles' backup versus Los Angeles, with Saturday adding that the team's plan at quarterback will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis down the stretch.

Ryan completed 19 of 33 passes for 182 yards and one touchdown in Saturday's 39-36 overtime loss to the Vikings.
EDGE Analysis
With Minnesota's offense and special teams imploding in the first half, Ryan didn't have to do much en route to a 33-0 halftime lead, though he chipped in with a one-yard passing touchdown to Deon Jackson in the first quarter. After halftime, a script Ryan has come to know all too well unfolded, as the Vikings tied the game at 36-36 with 2:15 left in regulation. Minnesota completed the largest comeback in NFL history with a field goal in the final minute of overtime after one last failed drive from Ryan and the Colts. The aging quarterback hasn't thrown for 250 yards in a game since Week 6 as he prepares to face the Chargers on MNF in Week 16.

Coach Jeff Saturday confirmed Monday that Ryan will remain the Colts' starting quarterback ahead of Saturday's game against the Vikings, JJ Stankevitz of the team's official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
In the Colts' 54-19 loss to the Cowboys in Week 13, Ryan completed 21 of his 37 pass attempts for 223 yards and two TDs, while throwing a trio of picks and losing a fumble in the contest. While the veteran QB no doubt has had his share of turnovers this season, Saturday suggested that the positioning of the signal-caller's receivers and breakdowns in pass protection have been contributing factors to Ryan's ball-security issues. In any case, Ryan will look to rebound this weekend following a bye week, while going up against a Minnesota defense that is allowing a league-high average of 287.2 passing yards per game to date.

Ryan completed 21 of 37 pass attempts for 223 yards and two touchdowns while throwing three interceptions and losing one fumble in Sunday's 54-19 loss to the Cowboys.
EDGE Analysis
This game was actually much closer than the final score suggests, but Ryan committed untimely turnovers that ultimately cost his team a chance at victory. The aging signal-caller threw an ugly interception on the Colts' final drive of the first half, then he had three consecutive drives with turnovers in the second half that all resulted in touchdowns for Dallas. Ryan has not performed well since being reinstated as the starter by head coach Jeff Saturday, throwing four TDs but committing six total turnovers while failing to top 225 passing yards in any of the four games. The sliding Colts are entering a bye week, so it will be interesting to see if Saturday sticks with his struggling starter when the team resumes play against the Vikings on Dec. 18.
