Matt Ryan QB ATL 1 Day5 Comments

Ryan completed 21-of-24 passes for 286 yards, with three touchdowns and no turnovers in Thursday's 56-0 win over Tampa Bay.

Ryan turned in a near-perfect performance for the second time in three weeks, after throwing a trio of interceptions in Sunday's 24-10 road loss to the Bengals. He was pulled from Thursday's game in the third quarter, as the Falcons were sitting pretty on a 49-0 lead, thanks in large part to the Ryan-Julio Jones connection. Even with the one stinker in Cincinnati mixed in, Ryan and the Atlanta offense are off to an encouraging start. The team didn't miss a beat without Roddy White (hamstring), who will now have 10 days to get ready for a Week 4 contest at the Vikings.

Ryan completed 24-of-44 passes for 231 yards and a touchdown, but he also threw three interceptions and was sacked twice during Sunday's loss to the Bengals.

The Falcons really struggled to move the ball against the Bengals and Ryan's touchdown pass, a 14-yarder to Julio Jones, didn't come until 8:35 left in the fourth quarter to make it 24-10. Ryan connected with eight different receivers, but only Jones finished with more than 42 yards. He has now attempted 87 passes through two games, but he'll be back home looking to right the ship in Week 3 against the Bucs.

Ryan threw for a franchise-record 448 yards with three touchdowns in Sunday's exciting 37-34 overtime win against New Orleans.

Ryan was fantastic in the victory, completing 72 percent of his pass attempts with a sparkling 10.4 YPA. He hooked up with Julio Jones and Roddy White early and often, and even incorporated Devin Hester into the offense, as the veteran kick returner caught five passes for 99 yards. Ryan might find things a little tougher in Week 2, as the Falcons will travel to Cincinnati, but still should be plenty productive with a healthy set of weapons.

Ryan completed all seven of his pass attempts for 53 yards in Friday's preseason opener against the Dolphins, leading his team to a touchdown on his only drive.

Working sans Julio Jones (foot), Ryan hooked up with Roddy White four times. Though he'll be without Tony Gonzalez this season, Ryan should have an improved offensive line, and most important of all a healthy Jones. By all accounts, Jones will be fine for the regular season, even though he's been taking it easy in practice. Ryan will also have White back at full strength, after the long-time Falcon was limited by a nagging ankle injury for most of last season. Looking to the other side of the ball, Atlanta's defense has the potential to be much improved from last season, but probably won't be good enough to keep the team in many run-first situations.

ESPN Falcons reporter Vaughn McClure expects the team to remain a pass-happy offense.

Tony Gonzalez believes former teammate Matt Ryan is not yet an elite quarterback.

Gonzalez made the comments on ESPN's NFL Live Thursday. "Matt's an excellent quarterback," Gonzalez said. "But he's not elite. He's this close. He'll get there, but he has some learning to do." Gonzo is right, but it's surprising he'd be so upfront about his former quarterback barely a month after hanging it up. Ryan made it more clear than ever in 2013 that he's not a Peyton Manning-style elevator, but still someone who needs his teammates to elevate him to "elite" heights.

Matt Ryan completed 37-of-48 passes for 348 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions in Monday night's Week 16 loss to the 49ers.

Ryan played phenomenal football on Monday night. It was mostly a catch-and-release game for him, like it always is with this turnstile offensive line he plays behind, but Ryan was extremely accurate. One interception came on a tipped ball that was returned for a game-sealing pick-six, while the final pick was on a last-second Hail Mary into the end zone. Matty Ice's first touchdown pass, a 39-yard strike to Roddy White, was a thing of beauty. Ryan dropped it right into White behind two defenders. The second score came on a broken play to Tony Gonzalez. Considering the cards Ryan has been dealt this season, he's played admirably. He and the 4-11 Falcons will wrap up their season with the Panthers next Sunday.

Matt Ryan completed 29-of-38 passes for 210 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in Week 15 against the Redskins.

Ryan averaged a lousy 5.5 YPA as he was under pressure all day, just as he has been all year long behind one of the league's worst offensive lines. Ryan spread the ball around, targeting each of Tony Gonzalez, Roddy White, and Harry Douglas a team-high seven times. Matty Ice hooked up with Gonzo for a 13-yard score in the first quarter. The two came one yard short of another touchdown strike in the second half. Ryan will be a mid-to-low QB2 next week in San Fran.

Matt Ryan completed 20-of-35 passes for 206 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in the Falcons' Week 14 loss to Green Bay.

Ryan played a better game than the stats and result indicate; he wasn't helped by six drops from his receivers, headlined by slot man Harry Douglas' most glaring mistakes. Ryan will be a better fantasy bet and quality low-end QB1 option when the Falcons face the left-for-dead Redskins defense in Week 15.

Matt Ryan completed 28-of-47 passes for 311 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's Week 13 win over the Bills.

Ryan didn't push the ball downfield much (his longest completion went for 29 yards), but he finally got Roddy White into the mix for a 10/143/0 line. It's big for his rest-of-season value. With White getting attention on the outside, Tony Gonzalez and Harry Douglas will have more room to work the middle. Despite all the Falcons issues, Ryan is still on pace to throw for 4,628 yards with 25 touchdowns. He'll be a borderline QB1 against the Packers in Week 14, but note that the game is at Lambeau. Ryan and the Falcons traditionally fare much better in domes, where Sunday's Toronto game was.
