McFadden had 12 carries for 37 yards with a touchdown in Sunday's 30-14 loss to Houston. He added two catches for 31 yards.

Other than a 10-yard rush, McFadden did very little, as well as the entire Oakland offense. In fact, the Raiders possessed the ball for just 21 minutes, and trailed 27-0 at the end of three quarters. McFadden's short touchdown early in the fourth period helped save fantasy owners that rolled the dice on him, after Maurice Jones-Drew (hand) was ruled inactive. Meanwhile, speedster Latavius Murray barely touched the ball, recording just one carry for six yards. Thus, it appears as though Oakland will lean on McFadden as long as Jones-Drew is out.

McFadden's teammate, Maurice Jones-Drew, is day-to-day with a hand injury, csnbayarea.com reports.

While Jones-Drew's injury isn't thought be a major issue, if it limits him or sidelines him Sunday against the Texans, McFadden would be in line for an expanded workload in Week 2, along with the team's No. 3 back, Latavius Murray.

McFadden had four carries for 15 rushing yards and one catch on one target for six receiving yards Sunday against the Jets.

McFadden played behind Maurice Jones-Drew, although the latter finished with nine carries for 11 rushing yards and two catches for 12 receiving yards. Jones-Drew will continue to be the starter in Oakland, and while McFadden has garnered plenty of carries in his time with the Raiders, his fantasy value is fairly limited this season as long as Jones-Drew is healthy.

McFadden had five yards on three carries and negative-two yards on one reception in Friday's preseason game against the Packers.

McFadden hasn't done enough to leapfrog Maurice Jones-Drew, who broke off a 40-yard touchdown run in Friday's game. Jones-Drew has locked down the starting job, and also figures to be more active in the passing game. It's not entirely clear how the goal-line work will be allotted, but history suggests that Jones-Drew is the better bet from in close. If Matt Schaub doesn't shape up, it may be a while before anyone finds out.

McFadden ran eight times for 27 yards and a touchdown in Friday's preseason game against the Lions.

McFadden's eight touches included three consecutive carries at the goal line, with the last of those going for a one-yard touchdown. Maurice Jones-Drew started and drew two targets, but McFadden was also quite active with the first-team offense. While we can't assume that McFadden will get most of the goal-line carries, it's quite possible that the Raiders favor him for such a role. As the superior receiver, MJD seems to be the favorite for third-down work.

McFadden gained 23 yards on his only carry in Friday's preseason opener against the Vikings.

Maurice Jones-Drew got the start and played the first two drives, while McFadden handled the third and final drive for the first-team offense. MJD is listed as the starter and worked as such Friday, but the Raiders are still expected to go with a timeshare. Latavius Murray could perhaps emerge as a factor in the running game, particularly if McFadden struggles the way he did the last two seasons.

Maurice Jones-Drew is listed as the first-team running back ahead of McFadden on the Raiders' initial depth chart in advance of the team's preseason opener, ibabuzz.com reports.

Sports Illustrated's Robert Klemko reports "at this stage" Darren McFadden has the "starting edge" over Maurice Jones-Drew in the Raiders' backfield.

Klemko, however, does allow that this "should be a committee backfield considering McFadden's injury history." While McFadden may get the "starts," Jones-Drew leading the Raiders in carries is probably the safe bet. McFadden is certainly the more talented runner, but he's never played a full 16-game slate. This is going to be a timeshare. MJD and DMC are currently going in the seventh and eight rounds of fantasy drafts, respectively, as RB3/FLEX options.

The Contra Costa Times' Steve Corkran said he expects RB Darren McFadden to be the Raiders' starting running back if healthy.

Corkran added he expects McFadden to have the most yards from scrimmage of an Oakland back this season. It is a bold position to take considering McFadden's injury history and the presence of newly-acquired RB Maurice Jones-Drew. No matter who is the "starter," the Oakland backfield projects as an almost straight timeshare between two backs on the downsides of their career. Not exactly a blueprint for fantasy success.

The Raiders have given Darren McFadden reps on kickoff returns during OTAs.

"Anything is an option," said coach Dennis Allen. We're tentatively expecting Maurice Jones-Drew to emerge as Oakland's top running back, with McFadden relegated to change-of-pace or lesser-half of a committee work. That sort of role could open up DMC's special teams plate. McFadden is a straight-linish runner with 4.4 jets. He could be an excellent kickoff return man.
