Joe Flacco QB BAL 14 Days

Flacco completed 4-of-5 passes for 52 yards in Thursday's preseason opener against the 49ers, leading the Baltimore offense to a touchdown on his only drive of the game.

Flacco looked good in his brief bit of action, but he was facing a Niner defense largely comprised of backups. More importantly, the Ravens are completely healthy on offense, following a 2013 season that saw Flacco surrounded by some dreadful players. While it's unclear how much impact offseason acquisitions Steve Smith and Owen Daniels will have at this point in their respective careers, Flacco will surely benefit from having a healthy Dennis Pitta, and the offensive line projects to be much improved from last season.

Ravens OC Gary Kubiak is expected to utilized bootlegs and moving pockets in order to keep Joe Flacco off the turf this season.

Flacco was sacked 48 times last season, so it makes sense Kubiak would make protecting his franchise quarterback a priority. In addition to keeping Flacco on the move, Kubiak will rely on a quick-hitting offense and an on-paper improved offensive line to keep Flacco upright this season. Even if it works, Flacco upside is limited to a low-end QB2 in fantasy.

Ravens LT Eugene Monroe anticipates new OC Gary Kubiak utilizing a run-based offense in 2014.

Kubiak's Houston offenses were at their best with a run foundation, and taking deep shots off play action. "Last year, we were lining up in a lot of one-back stuff, a lot of empty stuff, tossing the ball out there, coming out throwing on first down," Monroe said. "I don't think that's the history with Gary. I think he wants to run the ball a little bit." It's bad news for Joe Flacco's pass-attempt stats, but should improve his efficiency. Flacco has the necessary arm strength to be one of the NFL's top deep-ball throwers. Torrey Smith is one of the NFL's top deep threats.

Joe Flacco confirmed he won't need any knee surgery this offseason.

Flacco had a scare in Week 15 when his knee got hit by the helmet of Lions LB DeAndre Levy. He didn't miss a game, but did wear a brace and appeared to be limited. Still, it's not a concern going forward for a guy that has started 109 consecutive games (including playoffs). "I'm not going to have to get anything done," Flacco said. "It was just my MCL and it will heal on its own."

Flacco also claimed his knee felt "really good" in Sunday's loss, where he had major trouble planting his injured left leg. Flacco plans to again wear a bulky brace for Week 17. "I just want to make sure I can be as safe as I can so nothing crazy happens. Not ideal, but not that big of an issue." Playing at what appears to be well less than 100 percent, it's possible Flacco could require a clean-up procedure in the offseason. Flacco has never missed a game in his six-year career.

Joe Flacco completed 22-of-38 passes for 260 yards, zero passing touchdowns and two interceptions in Baltimore's 41-7, Week 16 loss to the Patriots, adding a rushing score.

Flacco was as bad as the box score would indicate, and appeared to be majorly inhibited by his bum left knee. Flacco wasn't stepping into his throws, which directly resulted in his first pick and a botched deep ball to Torrey Smith that could have gone for a long score. Flacco's second pick was a horrendous throw to Dennis Pitta on a simple sideline route. The low point came when Flacco failed to plant his left leg, tripping himself up for a sack. The Ravens aren't going to have a prayer next week in Cincinnati if Flacco doesn't majorly up his game.
