Davis was released by the Patriots on Friday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Just over a month since signing a one-year deal with the Patriots, Davis has been released. He hasn't played in a game since serving a year-long suspension for DUI. It remains to be seen if any tight end needy teams will give Davis a look once training camp opens.

Davis agreed to a one-year contract with the Patriots on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Davis didn't play at all in 2014 after seeing just seven catches for 70 yards in 2013. The signing by the Patriots seems more like a depth move, as the team already boasts Rob Gronkowski, Scott Chandler and Tim Wright at the position. Davis will likely need to battle for a roster spot out of training camp, but has shown the ability to produce in the past (59 catches for 796 yards and three touchdowns in 2011).

Davis has been reinstated by the NFL and is eligible to sign with any team, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Davis racked up over 2,000 receiving yards during a six-year span with the Redskins, but much of that time was plagued by off-the-field issues. Whether it be missing meetings or substance abuse policy violations, his name was always coming up for the wrong reasons. His most recent indefinite suspension resulted from a February 2014 driving under the influence charge, but the league has determined he's served his time, and will now be a free agent. At 29 years old, it's difficult to determine how productive the 6-foot-3 tight end will be after signing, as it's likely dependent on the situation he finds himself in.

The Washington Post reports suspended free agent TE was arrested and charted with DUI in Fairfax County, Va. on Thursday. A sad situation has taken a turn for the unbelievable. According to reporter Mike Jones, Davis was arrested at 3:45 PM Thursday afternoon. Already indefinitely suspended, it's fair to wonder if Davis will ever play another NFL down even though he's only 28. Davis has to get his personal life in order before he can even think about mounting a comeback.

NFL suspended free agent TE Fred Davis indefinitely for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. It had previously been reported that Davis was facing a six-game suspension, but it's much worse. It's his third strike and second suspension; Davis was suspended four games at the end of the 2011 season. The 27-year-old couldn't have had a worse past calendar year. He played sparingly for the Redskins in 2013 due to ineffectiveness and missed meetings. Davis also reportedly took naps while at team meetings. Now, he's been banned indefinitely. Davis is long on talent but has proven to be his worst enemy. He won't get a deal in free agency.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports impending free agent Fred Davis is facing a six-game suspension. La Canfora indicates it's a violation of the league's substance-abuse policy. At the end of the 2011 season, Davis was banned four games for a failed drug test. Davis, 28, played sparingly for Washington this past season, registering just seven catches for 70 yards and a touchdown in ten games of action. He's not going to be re-signed and is now one strike away from a yearlong ban.

Fred Davis caught a 23-yard touchdown in Week 15 at Atlanta. With Jordan Reed still sidelined with his concussion, Davis and Logan Paulsen handled tight end duties. Davis saw three targets. His touchdown catch was a perfectly placed ball in the corner of the end zone by Kirk Cousins into Davis's hands. It was Davis' first score of the season. He'll play out his final two games as a Redskin before testing free agency in March.

Fred Davis caught two passes for 14 yards in Week 13 against the Giants. Davis didn't start, but played the majority of snaps in the first quarter. He managed to make his first catch since Week 4, but also had a bad drop on the Redskins' final drive of the game. Davis doesn't have any fantasy value and will likely go back to being a healthy inactive if Jordan Reed (concussion) returns next week.

Coach Mike Shanahan didn't deny a report that Fred Davis missed team meetings last week leading up to Monday night's game against the 49ers. NBC Washington reported Monday that Davis blew off team meetings last week, even though he knew he was going to be active for the first time since October 13. Davis then played 11-of-61 snaps, seeing most of his action on the final drive in the blowout loss. He wasn't targeted in the passing game and is simply playing out the final year of his contract in anticipation of free agency.
