Brady Quinn (injured reserve) underwent a microscopic lumbar discectomy surgery in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

In layman's terms, Quinn had back surgery. Dr. Robert Watkins performed the surgery. It's the same operation Rob Gronkowski had in June. The Rams previously announced that Quinn was placed on I.R. with a hip injury last weekend. Either way, he's done for the season and should be ready for 2014.

Quinn enters the fray in Rex Ryan's quarterback carousel, which also includes Geno Smith, Mark Sanchez and Matt Simms. Quinn has gone 4-16 in 20 career starts, holds a 53.9 completion percentage and has a 12:17 TD-to-INT ratio. In other words, the Jets are still grasping at straws. Smith remains the most likely starter in Sunday's opener against the Bucs.
