Quinn signed with the Dolphins on Monday, Jeff Darlington of NFL Network reports.

The Dolphins already have a veteran presence in Matt Moore in the QB ranks behind starter Ryan Tannehill, but Quinn will undoubtedly push Pat Devlin and Brock Jensen for the third-string gig. However, Quinn hasn't thrown a pass as a professional since 2012 with the Chiefs.

Brady Quinn (injured reserve) underwent a microscopic lumbar discectomy surgery in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

In layman's terms, Quinn had back surgery. Dr. Robert Watkins performed the surgery. It's the same operation Rob Gronkowski had in June. The Rams previously announced that Quinn was placed on I.R. with a hip injury last weekend. Either way, he's done for the season and should be ready for 2014.

Quinn was signed in Week 8 and spent the last three games inactive as the No. 3 quarterback. Austin Davis will continue to handle backup duties behind Kellen Clemens. The Rams have promoted CB Quinton Pointer from the practice squad to replace Quinn on the active roster.
