The Press-Gazette expects Mason Crosby to face real competition from Giorgio Tavecchio this offseason.

Tavecchio wasn't brought in to be an ornament. Crosby connected on just 21-of-33 field goals last season and his 63.6 percent conversion rate ranked dead last among all qualifiers. It's a position battle for fantasy owners to watch as the Packers' elite offense yields plenty of opportunities.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel expects K Mason Crosby to face competition this offseason.

Over the last five years, Crosby has never had to deal with another kicker on the Packers' roster. But during one 10-game stretch last season, he missed 12-of-24 field goals. Green Bay is trying out Michael Bernard, a former Division III kicker, on Monday.

Coach Mike McCarthy gave struggling K Mason Crosby another vote of confidence following Sunday's win over the Bears.

Crosby went 0-for-2 Sunday and is now a pathetic 17-of-29 (58.6 percent) on the season. He's been given two votes of confidence in the last four weeks. "We're not changing our kicker, so you can write that down right now," McCarthy said. "He's our guy." Fantasy owners should have moved on awhile ago.

OCCASION: ME -- DESTROYING ANOTHER LOVER'S HEART (SADLY)

Sidney Poitier is a close personal friend of mine. I first befriended him as an actor working Summer stock in Central Park. I visited him during the filming of the movie To Sir, With Love . I swung by in early June, and immediately caught the eye of a young Scottish lass who knew a good thing when she...BZZZT... saw it.

She had a long friggin' name, and I immediately gave her the nickname Lulu . She had a bit part in the movie, but I worked with the director to give her a bigger role. I also gave Lulu the confidence to audition to sing the theme song.

Lulu was nothing but a summer love for me, and I thought Lulu knew that also. I was wrong, I had to get back to Vegas because the NFL season was right around the corner, and I needed to get back home, besides the movie was almost done filming. Ahhh... but our passionate, sweaty Sessions of Sweet were truly memorable. The voice of an angel -- even when not singing in front of an audience.

I left London August 5th to Lulu's despair. She immediately rewrote the words to the song 'To Sir , With Love' to reflect my Svengali-like influence on her. I didn't like seeing her cry, but I had a job to do...Many NFL fanbases are crying now -- but at least they have next year to look forward to... I wasn't going back to that clingy Scottish banshee; that was for sure.

NFC NOTES -- I was on-hand for the Vikings-Packers game in Green Bay. That game changed at the end of the first half after Mason Crosby hit a...

Struggling Packers K Mason Crosby said he isn't even going to kick a football during the bye week.

Crosby missed another field goal in Week 9 and is now just 10-of-14 on the season. "I'm just going to mentally just take a breather and come back strong after the bye," he said. Fantasy owners shouldn't take up a roster spot with Crosby during Week 10.

Waiver Wire Wonders - Week 5 (fantasysharks.com)

Wideouts continue to dominate what we are finding on the waiver wire; we've got plenty listed this week in several categories. A tight end and another kicker make it into this week's top category, and don't be afraid to pull the trigger on these guys to improve what you have at those positions. We dig deep for some running backs for those in deep/dynasty leagues. Though there were impressive performances by a couple other backs this week, we recommend caution as we are not sure these guys will be able to repeat those stellar numbers.

On to this week's wonders ...

Smokin' Hot

WR Brian Hartline, Miami

A disappointing Week 3 performance (one catch for 43 yards) kept Hartline out of last week's listing. Twelve catches for 253 yards (and a touchdown) in Week 4 lands him in this week's top grouping. We are hoping that Hartline will not end up being an "every other week" performer (nine catches for 111 yards in Week 2). Based on this past week we are recommending him as one of the top free agent additions this week. Ryan Tannehill looked to Hartline on almost every pass play, and threw in his direction regardless of the coverage. Hartline will no longer be a secret to opposing defenses, but look for him to be a solid WR3 from this point forward.

TE Scott Chandler, Buffalo

This high recommendation comes regardless of Chandler's status for the upcoming week. He left last week's game with a head injury, and early indications are that it will not be serious. Prior to the injury, he found the end zone twice on his way to a day that totaled four catches for 62 yards. Ryan Fitzpatrick has hit him four times this season for touchdowns, a valuable statistic for a fantasy tight end.

WR Leonard Hankerson, Washington

Still owned in less than 50 percent of online leagues, Hankerson gets repeat billing in this week's top listing. In mentioning him last week, we believed his playing time would not be affected by the return of Pierre Garcon, and it was not. His final stats were seven catches for 57 yards, but more importantly he was targeted 11 times. The numbers from this week are going to be typical of him every week going forward.

K Greg Zuerlein, St. Louis

Another week, another listing of a kicker in the weekly waiver story. Zuerlein has not missed this season, connecting on all 12 attempts, which have included three from 50-plus and five from 40-49 yards. Especially in those leagues that score bonus points based on the length of kick, don't...

Special teams coach Shawn Slocum believes K Mason Crosby is "at the pinnacle of his career."

Crosby is brimming with confidence after going 24-for-28 on field goals last season. "He's been here five years, and physically, he's in the best shape he's ever been in, mentally he's probably in the best shape he's ever been in," Slocum said. Crosby is a top-five fantasy option at the kicker spot.
