Scott Chandler (ACL) is inactive for the Bills' preseason opener.

Chandler has supposedly been a full-go for camp, but the Bills apparently don't want to risk his health in meaningless preseason action. With Chandler's role unclear in new coach Doug Marrone's offense, he's a low-end TE2.

According to, "all signs" point toward Scott Chandler (ACL) being a full participant in training camp on the heels of his "remarkable recovery."

"I think the biggest thing for me then is going to be how much I can do consecutively," Chandler said. "Is it going to be three days (in a row) or will I be able to go all four days and then have a day off. I was encouraged by what I did during minicamp. I was able to do three hard days in a row of stuff and I still felt good." Chandler is now seemingly certain to be ready for Week 1, but it's unclear how he'll fit into OC Nathaniel Hackett's system after scoring 12 combined touchdowns the past two seasons. He's a middle-of-the-road TE2.

Bills TE Scott Chandler (torn ACL) expects to be healthy for the start of training camp, but for his conditioning to limit him in workouts.

"My guess I'm not just going to go in there all the way," Chandler said. "I'm just worried about getting my lungs in shape and my legs. That's what this next month and a half is for." At this point, Chandler appears likely to appear in preseason games, and to be ready for Week 1. It's an Adrian Peterson-esque recovery for a player who likely needed one to guarantee his roster spot.

Bills TE Scott Chandler (torn ACL) is participating in minicamp.

Chandler is almost certainly limited to individual drills, but it's another positive step in his impressive recovery. Just like Adrian Peterson in 2011, Chandler tore up his knee in Week 16. It's looking more realistic that the red-zone threat will be ready for Week 1.

Per ESPN Boston, "all signs point to" Bills TE Scott Chandler (ACL surgery) being ready for Week 1.

Patriots beat writer Mike Reiss offers up no scoops on Chandler, who began running routes nearly three weeks ago, but the recent word suggests the lumbering tight end could be ready to strap up for the opener against New England. Chandler tore his ACL in Week 16 last season. He expects to be ready for camp.

Scott Chandler TE BUF Mar 03 '79 reports that TE Scott Chandler (ACL surgery) is likely to be a participant in practice right from the start of training camp.

Chandler tore his ACL in Week 16 last season, and it's five months to the day since he underwent surgery. On Thursday, following the team's OTA practice, Chandler was on the field running routes and catching passes. The soon-to-be 29-year-old says he "feels good," and thinks it's "realistic" to be ready for camp. We're skeptical, but it certainly sounds like Chandler might be ready for Week 1.

Bills TE Scott Chandler (ACCL surgery) thinks it's "realistic" that he can be ready for training camp.

"I feel it's realistic," Chandler said. "I feel good, and I'm excited for the season. The injury is different than it used to be. The doctors are better." Chandler tore his ACL in Week 16 last season and underwent surgery just over four months ago. He isn't participating in drills at OTAs, but he is catching passes and running on the side. We doubt Chandler will be ready for Week 1.

Bills TE Scott Chandler is sitting out full-squad OTAs while continuing to rehab his torn left ACL.

Chandler suffered the injury on December 23 and his training camp status is in question. The 28-year-old's role in new coach Doug Marrone's offense is also uncertain, although Buffalo did little to upgrade tight end other than draft Chris Gragg in the seventh round. Chandler's 2013 fantasy outlook is bleak.

Bills GM Buddy nix considers tight end a position of need.

Tight end would have been a need even before Scott Chandler tore his ACL, but became a bigger issue after Chandler went down in Week 16. Chandler is doubtful to be ready for Week 1, and is a strong candidate for the reserve/PUP list. Chandler is a workmanlike player with a nose for the end zone, but was already limited athletically before tearing up his knee. Due $2.35 million between salary and bonuses, his roster spot isn't assured.

Scott Chandler will have his ACL surgery Thursday.

Chandler waited nearly three weeks after his injury to go under the knife, but doesn't sound too concerned. "It's a pretty straightforward ACL from what I understand," he said. Chandler will be in a race to get ready for camp so he can make an impression on Doug Marrone's new regime -- assuming the Bills don't release him as a cap casualty.
