Cowboys LB Ernie Sims is not considered a lock to make the final roster.

Sims singed a minimum deal with no signing bonus or guarantees, so he'll have to prove his worth in training camp. The former No. 9 overall pick was a liability when asked to fill in on the Cowboys' decimated linebacker corps last year. Sims should fare better as new defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin moves the unit to a 4-3.

Cowboys re-signed LB Ernie Sims to a one-year contract.

28-year-old Sims was signed off the street last season and racked up 44 tackles across ten appearances, starting six games. His performance was generally poor on the field, but the Cowboys hope 5-foot-11, 230-pound Sims will be more effective in Monte Kiffin's new 4-3 defense. He'll compete for a backup job.

ESPN Dallas doesn't expect the Cowboys to re-sign free agent LB Ernie Sims.

The Dallas Morning News said it was "likely" that Sims would be back, but the Cowboys are expected to go younger at the position. He shouldn't have much of a market, so the Cowboys will likely keep Sims' phone number handy for future purposes.

The Dallas Morning News considers the Cowboys likely to re-sign free agent LB Ernie Sims.

Sims will come cheap, and reporter David Moore believes he could compete for a starting job with the Cowboys' switch to a 4-3 defense shifting DeMarcus Ware to end. Even if he doesn't start, Sims represents highly-experienced veteran depth. It's worth noting that Sims struggled filling in for an injured Sean Lee and Bruce Carter last season.

Cowboys DC Rob Ryan says ILB Ernie Sims (concussion) will be active for Week 16 against the Saints.

It's a bit of a relief for Dallas, which otherwise would have had to trot out Alex Albright alongside Dan Connor as starting inside linebackers. Either way, the seams and underneath portions of the Cowboys' defense are vulnerable entering Sunday's matchup with Jimmy Graham and Darren Sproles.

Cowboys ILB Ernie Sims was forced from Dallas' Week 15 game against the Steelers with a concussion.

It's a hard-knock life for Cowboys inside 'backers. Sims was elevated to the starting lineup after Sean Lee and Bruce Carter suffered season-ending injuries. The Cowboys are down to a trio of replacement-level talents opposite Dan Connor.

LINEBACKERS

Ernie Sims, ILB, DALLAS, vs. PHILADELPHIA: With middle linebacker Bruce Carter suffering an elbow injury in last weeks game against Washington, Sims sees an uptick in fantasy value. Ideally, we could morph Sims and fellow ILB Dan Connor into one player who would actually be a very nice fantasy player. Forced to pick between the two, Sims looks to see more snaps as he is better in coverage and has posted 22 total tackles in his five games for the Cowboys. The Eagles will be looking to unleash rookie running back Bryce Brown again this week and Sims will put up nice fantasy numbers.

Jo-Lonn Dunbar, WLB, ST LOUIS, vs. SAN FRANCISCO: Dunbar is coming off of a double-digit tackle performance last week against Arizona and has posted 69 total tackles for the season. While he only put up five combined tackles in the first meeting with San Francisco, Dunbar will be active in stopping second year quarterback Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers potent rushing attack. Ride the hot hand as Dunbar has 29 tackles in the last four games and get him in fantasy lineups.

Michael Boley, WLB, NEW YORK GIANTS, at WASHINGTON: Boley is leading the Giants in total tackles with 68 and has added half a sack to his season stats. He also has flashed excellent big play potential with three interceptions and a defensive touchdown scored. In the first matchup with the Redskins he posted an impressive ten total tackles and should enjoy similar numbers in week thirteen. He is solid against the run and more than holds his own in coverage making him a three down linebacker...
