Prater will be suspended for the first four games of the regular season for violating the league's substance-abuse policy, the Denver Post reports.

The suspension was alcohol-related, the Post reports. Prater has been in the league's alcohol program since he was charged with a DUI in 2011. With Prater suspended, it's not clear if Denver will stick with backup kicker Mitch Ewald or sign a veteran for the first four games.

Broncos K Matt Prater kicked an NFL-record 75 extra points in the 2013 regular season.

Prater broke Stephen Gostkowski's previous record of 74 extra points set in 2007. While Prater kicked just 25 field goals last season (tied for 18th), his record-breaking extra points tally propelled him to finish the season as fantasy's No. 2 kicker.

Matt Prater (illness) practiced in full Wednesday.

Prater is completely over the illness that made him feel like he got "run over by a truck" last week. The second-team All-Pro selection is all systems go for the Super Bowl.

Matt Prater (illness) traveled with the Broncos to New Jersey Sunday.

Prater battled a virus last week and was kept away from the team. But he's feeling much better and will be a full go for the Super Bowl. Prater was a second-team All-Pro selection this season, making 25-of-26 field goals -- including 6-of-7 from 50-plus. Two of those bombs came away from the thin air in Denver.

Broncos K Matt Prater (illness) is listed as questionable for the Super Bowl.

Prater missed his second straight practice Friday, but it's not a major concern. Broncos coach John Fox said Prater should be fine in plenty of time for the Super Bowl.

Matt Prater set an NFL record with a 64-yards field goal in Sunday's Week 14 game against the Titans.

In the thin air of Mile High and despite 16-degree temperatures, the Broncos chose to give Prater a shot as the first half expired. He delivered, breaking the previous record of 63 yards that was originally set by Tom Dempsey back in 1970 (and then tied by others). It's Prater's fifth field goal of 50+ yards on the season.

Matt Prater (calf) was 3-of-3 on field goals and 5-of-5 on extra points in Sunday's Week 5 win at Dallas.

Prater's calf was clearly not an issue. He hit one field goal from 48 yards out, another from 50 and then knocked in a 28-yarder as time expired to win the game. There's not a better fantasy kicking option in the league. Prater is 9-of-9 on the season, including 3-of-3 from 50+.

Broncos K Matt Prater (calf) is listed as probable for Sunday's Week 5 game at Dallas.

Prater was limited in practice all week with a right (kicking) calf issue. But the Broncos felt good enough with his status not to sign another kicker. We wouldn't bench fantasy's top option at the position.

Broncos K Matt Prater was added to the injury report Thursday, getting in a limited session with a right calf injury.

That's Prater's kicking leg. The mid-week add to the injury report suggests he suffered the injury in practice. Prater will likely test his leg on Friday before determining his Week 5 status. For now, he should be considered 50-50.
